Jasper Lee "Jim" Holland, Jr. Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 26, 2024.

On December 11, 2024, Jasper Lee Holland, Jr., lovingly known as "Jim," passed away peacefully, surrounded by his devoted family. Born on June 5, 1941, at Portsmouth Naval Hospital in Portsmouth, Virginia, Jim was the beloved third child of Lillian Gladys Hudson and Jasper Lee Holland, Sr. He grew up alongside his two older sisters, Barbara and Betty, and his younger brother, Paul.

The Holland family resided in Holland, VA, until Jim turned 11, at which point they relocated to Tampa, Florida. In 1958, the family settled in Brandon, FL, where Jim's athletic prowess shone brightly. A four-sport letterman at Brandon High School, he set the school record for the mile. Ever the jokester, Jim's charisma was undeniable - famously winning a "best legs" swimsuit contest with a group of friends in women's bathing suits, much to everyone's delight.

Jim's career began as a truck driver delivering plumbing and electrical supplies in the wholesale distribution industry. His relentless work ethic and commitment to excellence earned him widespread respect, propelling his career at Hughes Supply to incredible heights. Rising to Vice-President and later President of the Building Materials Division, Jim's servant leadership style left a legacy. A firm believer in teamwork and integrity, he often said, "You are no better than anyone else, and individual success comes from the success of others." He referred to his time at Hughes Supply as "The Time of My Life" as the company meant so much more than a place to work. It was a family, and he loved it as such.

His faith in God and his belief in Jesus Christ were evident in his actions and the way he treated everyone with grace and dignity. Jim was a mentor and a role model, known for his humility, compassion, and unwavering dedication to doing the right thing.

In retirement, Jim relocated to the serene North Georgia mountains, where he cherished time with his wife, Diane, and their family. He enjoyed traveling, cheering for his beloved Florida Gators, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Chicago Cubs, and creating lasting memories with those he loved most.

Jim is survived by his wife of 50 years, Diane, and five sons: Jasper (Steve), Dwayne (Allison), Barry (Krista), Brent (Cindy), and Todd (Suzanne). Grandchildren, Michael (Lisa), Candice (Wayne), Tyler (Ashley), Kailee (Nic), Davis (Juliette), Madison, Jasper, Johnny, and Lily, as well as Great Grandchildren, Stella and Avis. His sister Betty and brother Paul (Charle). He is preceded in death by his son Michael, his sister Barbara, and his parents, Jasper, and Lillian.

A celebration of Jim's remarkable life will be held at The Hidden Barn in Apopka, FL, on January 31, 2025, 6:00 – 10:00 p.m. To attend, please RSVP to the family at https://hbnb.io/e/z8qq/.

Jim's legacy lives on in the hearts of all who knew him. His love, humor, and faith continue to inspire those fortunate enough to call him family or friend.

I came to work with Hughes Supply as a sales engineer and was from the "outside" as most sales people rose through the ranks. Jim was also from the "outside" and we immediately bonded. Jim was a great leader by example, a tireless working executive dedicated to Hughes and the people he led. I am sorry I didn't know of his passing; I would certainly have attended his funeral. Some of our best times were on the golf course at Waterfall Club. We played couples golf and men vs. ladies. The men never won. It was always fun and entertaining, as was everything with Jim and Diane.

Our father intentionally met with each of his sons individually to make sure we all had the opportunity to ask any question we ever wanted to know the answer to. I was not only blessed to be one of his six sons, but to follow in his footsteps in business and to learn success through his eyes. For that me and my part of the family will be eternally grateful. So Dad, I´ll leave this here.... I love you and Thank you for this life!!! We will carry your torch on for generations to come. They will all know who Pepaw is, was and will forever be!

Holland Family,
Jim had the ability to make you feel comfortable and it was like he had known me for a long time. I'm grateful that we all got to have a great time in Key West. Respectfully, Jack
