Jean Riddell, age 90, passed away on October 8, 2023, comfortably at home in Parker, CO surrounded by her family.

Jean was born on December 5, 1932, in Hastings, England.

She served in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1957 ranking as Specialist Third Class in the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps during the Korean War. She was stationed for a bit in Japan where she met her husband Isaac Riddell as he was serving in the Airforce.

In her professional life, Jean worked as a Laboratory Tester for Lever Brothers in the UK and a proud member of the Sea Rangers. Sea Rangers learn how to be safe on the water and the skills needed to go boating in the summer months, they get involved with community action projects and non-nautical activities such as swimming, camping, climbing, team building, orienteering and competitions. Today members are also able to take part and gain national governing body qualifications or awards; Royal Yachting Association, British Canoe Union, First Aid and the Duke of Edinburgh Awards.

Jean and her mother Martha Greenless moved to the U.S. in 1954 via the ship Britannic, bound to New York. She and her mother moved to Shirley, Long Island to stay with family. Later moving to West Sayville in Suffolk County and finally settling down in Oakdale, NY in the subcommunity of Idle Hour where she lived from 1973-2006.

Jean utilized the G.I. Bill and furthered her education at Stony Brook University on Long Island, receiving her Master of Education.

She began her teaching career as a social studies teacher for local public schools. Later becoming a Professor/Program Director for the Medical Assisting Program at Suffolk County Community College in Brentwood, NY where she retired at the age of 70.

Jean is survived by her children Ian Riddell and Alison (Riddell) Baker and daughter in law Deb Riddell and son in law Christopher Baker. She also leaves behind her grandchildren, Catharine Bowstead and her husband Mark Bowstead. Jakob Baker and his wife Kaylee Baker, Ethan Baker, Elise Riddell, Lawson Riddell, Sophia Baker, and Emma Baker.

Jean was preceded in death by her mother, Martha (Greenlees) Widing. Also, Isaac Lawson Riddell, Ian and Alisons father.

Jean had a passion for serving her community and was actively involved in various organizations throughout her lifetime. When she arrived in the United States she worked as a camp leader for Camp Edey in Bayport, NY. Later Jean became an active Cub Scout Leader on Long Island. Jean earned her Wood Badge and Silver Beaver awards for her dedication and service. In Colorado she joined the Red Hat Society of Parker, Colorado. Jean enjoyed reading and continued to pursue learning throughout her life.

A celebration of life to honor Jean will be held at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado with a reception to follow.

The date is yet to be determined. However sometime in the summer of 2024.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to "Companions for Heroes" an organization close to her heart.
