Jeanne Riley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 24, 2023.
Jeanne Abee Hedrick Riley (March 13th, 1946 - July 17th, 2023) lived a Christ filled life, loving Jesus, her family, her friends and all those who came in her path! She truly believed and walked through her life sharing the mighty, sweet love, life and death of the Maker of the Universe! When I went to get her from her hometown Aiken, SC, where she had been living for two years, she didn't want to leave those she had grown so close to and she felt that she hadn't finished sharing Jesus with them! I brought her to live with us in Colorado and the doctor visits and treatments began right away. She looked at me after having an IV, with tears in her eyes, and said, "Now I know, the Lord had me come here to share Him with all the doctors, nurses and people that work with me!" She took her last calling very seriously and sharing her Savior... she did!!!!!

Mom was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia and a treatment resistant form of bone cancer. Her reaction was, "It's going to all be ok- I am a child of the King of Kings." She remained so kind and loving and was a real trooper through all the pain and suffering! We are completely confident and rejoice in the fact that she entered her everlasting home after running the race straight into the arms of her Savior!

Jeanne was the daughter of the late Norma Abee Hedrick and Joseph Clarence Hedrick, Sr; she was preceded in death by her brother Capt. Joseph C Hedrick, Jr, US Air Force. She is survived by her three daughters, Jennifer Ann Riley, Julie Christine Riley and Joy Riley Cannis (Chris); her 5 creative and beautiful grandchildren; her sister, Judy Hedrick Burch (Larry); her sister-in-law, Carol Vrattos Hedrick; and many nieces and nephews she dearly loved.

Jeanne attended Aiken High School where she was involved in basketball, cheerleading, Beta Club and Young Life. She then studied at Columbia College of Liberal Arts. She was crowned Miss Aiken in 1964. She then went on to graduate from the University of Georgia- remaining a faithful bulldog till the end! On staff and working with Young Life throughout and after in Birmingham, AL was her favorite memories!

In 1971, she married John Sellers Riley. They then moved to Lanett, AL and then on to Montgomery, AL where she lived until 2020 when moving back to Aiken, SC.

Jeanne will be honored in both AL. and CO. We celebrate her beautiful life and the love she shared with everyone who knew her!

The first memorial service will be on Thursday, August 3rd, 2023 at Trinity Presbyterian Church, Montgomery, AL. in the Westminister Room at 11:00am with the visitation directly to follow. All family and friends are welcome!!!

The second memorial celebration will be at one of the Young Life Camps in CO. We have chosen this location because of her great love of all her time spent at Young Life Camps and the fact she shared about those times with EVERY person she met while with us in CO! It will be the weekend of September 15th thru the 17th- coupled with her brother Joe's memorial time at The Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. We would love anyone to join us, fall in love with the camp activities and celebrate everything Jeanne Riley! Please text or message for further information.

In leau of flowers and gifts, we would ask you to donate to Operation Underground Railroad, Tim Ballard at ourrescue.org OR to Two Wolf Foundation supporting combat veterans at twowolf.org

My first cousin , Jeanne and I were very close as girls and young women. We spent time with our grandparents and summer vacations at their lake cabin. Over the past few years we connected again sharing family news and memories. He faith and expression thereof was beautiful and readily shared. I´ll always love her beautiful smile, voice, he love for he Lord and for her friends and family. It brings me comfort to one she´s in our Savior´s arms and with her brother, Joe and many of our loved ones. Rest in Peace and know you are lovingly remembered my dear one. God be with Judy and Jeanne´s girls and grands. See you in the choir!

I met Jeanne during her last couple of years in Aiken. We sat near each other in our lawn chairs, outside, where we had church services during Covid. She was a sweet lady. May she rest peacefully in the arms of Jesus.

Jeanne was such a wonderful friend, though I had not seen her in years I often think of all the Young Life trips we had together especially the ones in Colorado. Our camp trips to Lutheridge in NC were also very memorable. The whole Hedrick family were amazing and my thoughts and prayers go out to them.

She always had a smile on her face and she enjoyed singing in the Trinity Presbyterian Church choir as long as she was able. She brightened her world wherever she went!

What a beautiful lady. Yes boy did she share the gospel with anyone and everyone, always glowing b/c of Jesus and He is holding her right now. What a true race run and her rewards is great. I know she has made me thirst for more of Jesus. No matter what, she had Jesus! Speaks volumes on how to live. She will always be in my heart and so good I know I will see her again! Praying for you girls, Jennifer, Julie and Joy....I Love You
