Jeff Livingston

Jeffrey (Jeff) Franklin Livingston, beloved husband, father, son, and friend, died on June 28, 2024 at the age of 55. Jeff was hiking with his wife and daughters in a state park in Mendocino, California when he was struck and fatally injured by a falling tree branch.

Jeff was born in Hartford, Connecticut on July 18, 1968 to Edgar James (Jim) Livingston and Thelma Livingston (Cross). He grew up in Simsbury, Connecticut and, from an early age, was passionate about film, reading, and music. He attended the University of Rochester, where he studied English and film theory. While in college, Jeff met and fell in love with Kristin Hall, with whom he spent the rest of his life. They moved to Los Angeles, California in 1995 where Jeff pursued graduate studies in film theory at UCLA. He went on to work for a number of years as a graphic designer.

Jeff was kind, funny, smart, and deeply loving. He enjoyed traveling, hiking, listening to music, watching movies, and playing guitar. Above all, Jeff treasured his time with his family and was a joyful and dedicated partner to Kristin and dad to daughters Annika and Sonja. He never missed his daughters' robotics meets and designed the team t-shirts each year. He made excellent waffles. He enjoyed playing games of all kinds and never gloated when he won, which was often. He was also a caring friend, always happy to provide help and support when needed. Although he settled in California, Jeff and his family regularly returned to the east coast to spend time with his beloved parents Thelma and Jim; cousins Rick and Susan Agro (Cross) and Robert Cross; aunt Helen Cross (Chambers); and brothers- and sisters-in-law Peter and Kristin Hall (Anderson); Michael Hall and Christy Rose; and David and Jill Hall (Meniketti).

Jeff is preceded in death by his brother Tom, who died tragically of leukemia in 2002, and his father Jim. He is survived and dearly missed by his mother Thelma, wife Kristin, daughters Annika and Sonja, and dog Juniper.

Jeff died far too soon, but he died doing what he loved: hiking with his family in a beautiful forest. During his final moments on the trail, Jeff, Kristin, Annika, and Sonja were laughing together, sharing memories of previous family hikes, and reflecting on how lucky they were to be in each other's company.
