Jeffrey Fisher Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 10, 2025.
Jeffrey Scott Fisher passed away on January 4, 2025, at his home in Frederick, Maryland, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Baltimore on December 14, 1949, to Robert Pearce and Nancy Lee Purgitt Fisher (McIver), Jeff lived a life filled with love, learning, and purpose.

For over 30 years, Jeff was the devoted husband of Patricia Stanfield Fisher. He was a beloved father to his son, Scott Pearce (married to Michele F. Craycraft), and his daughter, Kimberly Romain (married to Robert Davis). His role as "Granddad" to Evan Davis and Colton Pearce brought him immense joy. Jeff is also survived by his younger brother, Robert Pearce Fisher, Jr. (married to Cathy Kovaleski).

Jeff was the kind of person who lit up a room with his quick wit and, yes, the occasional "Dad joke"-the good kind, the ones that actually make you laugh. He was a people person in the truest sense, generous with his time and his warmth. Whether outdoors, solving Sudoku puzzles with his razor-sharp mind, or sharing stories at gatherings, Jeff made those moments matter.

His life was marked by resilience and curiosity. When Jeff was young, his father, Bob, contracted polio, leaving him paralyzed. Jeff stepped up in a way that shaped the rest of his life: with responsibility, resourcefulness, and a deep compassion for others. These qualities propelled him to earn the rank of Eagle Scout-a fitting testament to his character.

A graduate of Parkville High School (Class of '67), Jeff earned a scholarship to Johns Hopkins University, where he joined the Kappa Alpha fraternity. Like many of his generation, Jeff faced the Vietnam draft. With a lottery number of 26, he served in the National Guard before receiving a medical discharge.

Jeff had a sharp mind and a pioneering spirit. In the days when computers filled entire rooms and punch cards were the norm, he taught himself programming-a skill that defined much of his career. He worked at the Department of Transit & Traffic in Baltimore, moved to Houston during the oil boom, and held roles at American Security Bank, Vitro Corporation, and Lehman Brothers.

And because Jeff never stopped chasing knowledge, he achieved a lifelong dream in 2006: earning a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, cum laude, from the University of Maryland.

Jeff loved the simple pleasures of life, including time spent at the family farm, summers on the Chesapeake Bay, and the familiar camaraderie of gatherings with friends at La Paz restaurant in Frederick. These were the moments he cherished, and the memories he leaves behind will be cherished just as much.

A celebration of Jeff's life will be held at a future date. His family, friends, and all who knew him will remember him as a man who lived fully, loved deeply, and left the world a better place.

It is with great sadness that my friend, Jeff has passed away.
I have known Jeff for many years. He was enthusiastic and always possessed a cheerful smile and concern for others. Jeff was also a friend of "Rosebud" and helped us to secure a long-term relationship with Indigo Books in Canada.
I will surely miss him and already do!

When we went over for dinner hosted by Pat and Jeff. They both made us feel right at home. Jeff's quick wit and humor started immediately followed by his famous steaks and a lovely dinner. Those steaks are still the best we've ever had due to Jeff's special prep and grilling. A memorable evening by special people.

Over more than twenty years Jeff showed me intelligence, compassion, friendliness, and commitment to what he believed. His sense of humor and particular way of relating to nearly everyone made him a favorite to old friends as well as people he had just met. Jeff was a great host, informed conversationalist, and spirited participant at parties and during Friday evenings at La Paz. He was a man you couldn't miss and wouldn't want to miss. He will stay in my and many others' memories.

Jeff was a valued member of our trivia team. He spent hours coming up with a potential name for our team. We eventually settled on Synchronized Brain Freeze after reading through the 3 pages of possibilities. His humor and wit will stay with us. He will be missed.
