Vrooman was one of my best friends and brothers in Geramny. We use to go camping and I taught him how to rappel in Little Swiss. We trained together and hung out together. One of the best men I have ever known. I was sent to fort Knox and I learned later of what happened. It has been really hard on me for a long time knowing what happened and the fact that I wasnt there with him. I was supposed to be there but the Army sent me elsewhere. It hurts everytime I think about it. The Army couldn't ask for a better leader, soldier, and friend. We had good times together. He was always there when I needed him and I'm sure he was always there when someone else needed him. I will never forget you Vrooman. Brother and Friend!! Till we meat again.

To the family of Staff Sgt. Jeremy D. Vrooman:
The Fort Snelling Memorial Chapel Foundation will be honoring your loved one at the non-denominational Christian Memorial Day Remembrance worship service at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, 26 May 2013. We will remember the casualties of the Global War on Terrorism from Minnesota … and the bordering states of Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Outside of the historic Fort Snelling Veterans Memorial Chapel will be a “Memorial Garden” filled with some 300 white crosses bearing the names of the war dead … including your loved one.

The Memorial Garden will be encircled with larger white crosses representing all of the wars of our nation's history and give honor to all who have served in the United States Armed Forces and made the ultimate sacrifice for the freedoms we enjoy today. Wreaths will be placed at the foot of each 8-foot cross bearing the number of U.S. Service Members killed in each of America's conflicts.

I would like to extend to your family an invitation to honor us with your presence at worship as we pay tribute to the sacrifice made by your service member and family. Our pastor, Kenneth L. Beale, Jr., will preach a message entitled, “Freedom:Free, but Costly.” At the conclusion of the worship hour, all of the congregation will be invited to silently pay their respects at the garden and there place poppies at each of the crosses. A Memorial Rifle Squad of the Fort Snelling National Cemetery will fire vollies as the US flag is lowered to half-staff and Taps is played. Following your visit to the Memorial Garden, your family is invited to attend an informal reception (weather permitting) outside of the Chapel. The Memorial Garden will remain until 5:00 p.m. on Monday, 27 May (Memorial Day).

As this Christian worship service has traditionally been well attended, we would be happy to reserve seating for you and yours. To do so, kindly call (651/286-7296) and leave a voice message indicating your veterans' name and the number of persons attending. For more information about the Foundation or driving directions to the historic chapel at Fort Snelling, visit our website at: www.fortsnellingmcf.org Special rates for nearby hotels will be available. For more information call (651/286-7296) or email the office ([email protected]) and leave your name and contact information.

Also, beginning at dusk (8:30 p.m.) on Saturday 25 May through dawn (6:30 a.m.) on Sunday, 26 May, a “Prayer Vigil for Peace” will be held in the sanctuary of the Chapel. You are invited to stop by, light a candle and place it at the foot of your loved one's cross in the Memorial Garden … and then enter the Chapel for prayer.

If you are not able to attend, we pray that you would find comfort in knowing that our prayers are with you and all of the fallen heroes.

Respectfully,

My name is Raul Mendoza. I live here in San Antonio. Like you we have lost our son Marine SGT. Matthew E. Mendoza. KIA 6-20-08. I know that the men, Jeremy's Brothers will always remember and be thankful for saving their lives. I assure you not a day go's by they don't reflect and wish they could have done anything to save Jeremy. You have our sincere thanks for Jeremy's devotion to duty and love for his men, His Brothers. I know that no words I can say will offer you little more than a small amount of comfort. But I can not refrain from saying to you that Honor in witch Jeremy served his country and the United States Army may in some way bring to you the proud measure of gratitude knowing Jeremy gave his life upon the Alter of Freedom. We Gold Star Family's never wanted to be in the same group we are in now. But together we may know we are not alone, And we always have someone to turn to when needed.

Dear Xavier and Jayde,

Your father loved you both very much. He is a true hero. Be proud of who he was and what he did. He always had a smile on his face when he talked of you, and you could see in his eyes, just how much he loved you when he looked at your photos. I know for a fact that you were always in his thoughts. He was a good man and will be missed by all those who knew him.

Dear Latrecia and Vrooman family,

Jeremy was my husband's "boss" while they were part of Rear D, here in Vilseck, before my husband left for Iraq. No one I know ever had a bad word to say about Jeremy, and many had great things to say about him. Before my husband left, we had the pleasure of having Jeremy over to our house for dinner. Whenever he talked about you and the kids (and he did alot), he literally glowed. He was so proud of his family. It's America's (and especially his Vilseck family's) time to be proud of him. Our country lost a good man that day.

Prayer for Peace

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace;
Where there is hatred, let me sow love;
Where there is injury, pardon;
Where there is doubt, faith;
Where there is despair, hope;
Where there is darkness, light;
And where there is sadness, joy.

O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not so much seek to be consoled as to console;
To be understood, as to understand;
To be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive,
It is in pardoning that we are pardoned,
And it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Amen

To the family and parents of Jeremy I want you to know that you are not alone in the grief you are feeling. I too know what you are going through and what you will go through in the coming weeks and months ahead. You will have many questions as to why? You will have many things to get ready or go through and that should be done in time. Sometimes it just can’t be faced and that’s ok, for you will know when the time is right for you. There is no right or wrong way to grieve it’s an individual journey that unfortunately we now have to take. I ask that God give the comfort, strength and courage that you are going to need. When and if the time is right for you please contact me. You can cry, vent, or just talk as only another person who has been where you are can really know what you are going through. May God continue to be with you and heal you.

SSG Jeremy Dale Vrooman's loved one's, Thank You. Words fall far short when life ends abruptly. The meaning of the name , Jeremiah - whom Jehovah has appointed, is a worthy name for soldier in the service of the people and nation for which he gave his life, that we might remain free to live and worship a just and a living God. I Thank You in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior for Jeremy. "They shall fight against thee: but they shall not prevail against thee; for I am with thee, saith the Lord , to deliver thee. July 29, 2008

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

July 28, 2008

We are weekly viewers of the postings on "This Week" with George Stephanopolous. It really struck home when "Jeremy Vrooman's" name popped up. We had been in the habit of looking for location, but for our surname to appear was a real heart stopper. We are decendents of Chauncey Vrooman (wife Harriet). As the only Vrooman's in the South Texas area, we have been somewhat isolated from the family name. My husbands's brother Fred passed away in January 2007 in Arizona (His adopted home since retiring from New York). My husband Richard Harold Vrooman (a Vietnam Veteran), is the son of Harold Russell Vrooman (a WWI Veteran). This name connection to a fallen soldier has drawn us into this scenario in a way we had conveniently avoided until now. Seeing the photo of Jeremy reminded us eerily of our own children (Max, 21 and Emiley, 16) and brought us closer to the reality of this entire situation. Our prayers go out to you at this time. We would look forward to examining further any family connection that surely exists.

I like to think of Jeremy and our son Peter together now. “Perhaps they are not stars but openings in the heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines upon us to let us know they are happy.”

Please let us know if there's anything we can do for you. Jeremy will not be forgotten.
Love, Laura and Alan Burks

To Jeremy's Family:

I greatly regret the painful loss all of you have endured. I did not know Jeremy personally, but my husband, Steven Barron, worked with him in P troop and thought of him fondly. I wish I had the words to make this time less painful for you, but know that there are people out there who are thinking of you and praying for you.

Another fallen hero...the members of the mighty United States Military are truly heroes for their unselfish service to protect the liberty of our nation, and to free those without liberty around the world. My heart and sympathy are with the Vrooman family in this time of loss. Although I didn't know SSG Vrooman, I am incredibly grateful for and immensely proud of him and his family for their service. God bless you and grant you His comfort and peace.

Latrecia and family: Neither I nor my wife had the pleasure of meeting the fine young man who became your husband and father. But we are the parents of an infantryman, a helicopter pilot, and a flight medic. Our family has found wisdom in the words that “They also serve who stand and wait.” As a military family, we simply wanted to say that we share in your loss in some small way, and that we tearfully join a grateful country in gratitude and pride for Jeremy’s courage to have made the greatest of sacrifices for each and every one of us.

I have known Jeremy only through uplifting conversations exchanged with his father, Bruce, at my sister's store in Adolph, Minnesota. Bruce shared updates and stories about both of his sons in service to our country while moving through his work. There is such anguish in our hearts for the loss of your dear son, Bruce. We send our deep sympathy to you and Sue, Jeremy's wife and children, Jeremy's brother, and all of the Vrooman family.

The Final Salute

“Brothers in Arms”, Military men and women down through the centuries, have traditionally exchanged “Hand Salutes” as a sign of recognition and as a way to render courtesy and respect one to another.

This “Hand Salute” is the last that we shall render to SSgt. Jeremy D. Vrooman our Brother in Arms. To his family it symbolizes the love and respect that we have for Jeremy. And to Jeremy it is rendered as a symbol of honor and gratitude to thank him for the ultimate sacrifice he made in combat while serving the U.S. Army and his country. No greater love is shown than a man lay down his life for another. Jeremy, you are a brave Warrior, a true Patriot and a national Hero. With your passing, our Country has lost a National Treasure. We bid you a sad farewell. You will be dearly missed from among our ranks. Be at ease. Rest in Peace.

On behalf of the 1,409 members of Lowe-McFarlane Post 14 of the American Legion in Shreveport, Louisiana, I extend our sympathies and our condolences to Jeremy’s family and loved ones.

LIFE...so fragile.
LOSS... so sudden.
HEART...so broken.

In the wake of such a loss, we're haunted by things we don't - and
may never - understand. Yet the solace we seek may not come from
answers. So we look for comfort, in the belief of love's everlasting
connection. May that love lift you, hold you close, and give you
peace.
