Jerry Britt

Jerry Lee Britt, 89, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at his home in Shafter, California on August 15, 2025. Jerry was born on May 29,1936, in Vernon Texas, to Seab Matt and Virgie Lee Britt. Aa young boy he moved with his parents and his sister Artie Marie to Shafter where he lived for over 80 years.

Jerry graduated from Shafter High where he met the love of his life Nadine Bellows, and went on to join the US Air Force, where he served as a weatherman. Jerry and Nadine were married in 1957, creating the family foundation that has grown to include a son Lee (wife Petey) Britt, daughter Torey (husband Rolland) VanDeValk, and daughter Tena (husband Eric) Horn, along with eight grandchildren, and sixteen great-grandchildren. Jerry was proceeded in death by his parents and his son Lyndon. He is survived by his wife of 68 years Nadine, and his sister Artie Dunham.

After being honorably discharged from the Air Force, Jerry became an electrician by trade. He learned his craft working at SA Camp Farms, later working for Kern County at Kern Medical Center and eventually Kern County General Services, where he met many cherished, lifelong, friends. Jerry also served for many years as a Shafter volunteer fireman sharing a comradery with many other great friends/families.

While he was an incredibly skilled craftsman both electrically and mechanically, he will always be remembered by everyone who knew him for applying those considerable skills to the huge number (understatement) of cars that he bought, fixed up, and sold. Part of his legacy is that he gave each of his eight grandchildren their first car. Jerry was also a painter. Another part of his legacy is the many paintings that hang on the walls of all of his family members.

Most importantly, his legacy lives on through the example that he set, the love he shared, and the many memories we will cherish forever. His essence and his spirit live on in everyone who was fortunate enough to feel his touch and inspiration. Those of us who he loved, and who loved him so very much.

Per Jerry's wishes there will be no funeral service. Family and friends will celebrate his life with a supper at a date to be determined later.
