Jessie Key Jefferson entered into rest May 23, 2022. Jessie Key Jefferson was born February 27, 1954 in Jackson, SC to Ethel K. Simmons and the late Robert Lee McCorker. Jessie was educated in the Richmond County Schools and in Camden, NJ where she obtained her Nursing Degree. Jessie loved to serve others; it brought her great joy to her heart to be helpful to others. Jessie chose a career that allowed her to do just that, take care of people. She worked as an RN at Cooper Hospital on the Trauma Unit and Rehab and Spinal Unit in Camden NJ. She took great pleasure into putting a smile on someone else's face.

She accepted Christ as her personal Lord and Savor at an early age. She became a member of Broad Street Baptist Church with Reverend Cornell Williams, in Camden, New Jersey. She remained a faithful member. Jessie was actively involved as she served as an Usher as well as the Choir Ministry. She later moved back to Augusta, Georgia where she found another new church, Good Hope Church with Reverend Dr. Johnny R. Hatney and the Good Hope family became her new church family where she became an Usher, which is all she talked about and how good she felt at home serving the Lord with a God-fearing Church. Nary Bennings, Sister Ora Howard and how they welcomed her also Sister Cheryl Dukes who always smiled at her. She truly loved her pastor, church and church family. She later moved her membership. She then joined Windsor Spring Baptist Church.

She loved her mother, sisters, brothers, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren. Her love for cooking and church gatherings. She was always doing something even when her health failed her. She was known for her chitterlings and hog maws. She loved her husband, Elmer Jefferson Sr. who preceded her in death. The legacy she left with her family and friends will live on forever. She will be truly missed but her spirit will continuously live on in all those who knew her. She fought a good fight, never lost faith, nor took her eyes off her Heavenly Father.

Jessie leaves behind her mother Ethel Simmons of Augusta GA, three daughters, Topeka Collier (Montez) of Saluda, SC, Nakita Rouse (Butler) of Augusta, GA and Yolanda Harden (Fred) of Egg Harbor City, New Jersey. Four Sons, Martin Rouse of Augusta GA, George A. Rouse Jr. of Augusta, GA, Fredrick Brigham (Roshanda) of Augusta, Ga and Omar Rouse (Nicole) of Hephzibah, Georgia. To The Family,
I mourn with you the loss of our beloved and remember so well her smile. When not ushering, we often ended up sitting near each other in church...she with her son and me with my four. And I so admire how he continued to bring her to Good Hope even when her health slowed her down but now she sat nearer the side door.
Out lost but eaven is blessed with a smiling doorkeeper.

Sadly Submitted,
Sis. Cheryl Dukes
