JIMMY PONDER Obituary
JIMMY "FATS" W.
On Monday, September 16, 2013, age 67, of the North Side, formerly born and raised in Beltzhoover. Beloved father of Jennifer Ponder of East Orange, NJ and Jeanette Ponder of Chicago, IL; son of the late Genous and Pencilla M. Ponder-Alston; brother of William F. Alston, Jr., Dean R. Alston and Steven C. Alston, all of Pittsburgh; also survived by other relatives and friends. Visitation with the family Friday 4-8 p.m. at the ROBINSON FUNERAL HOME, INC., 2025 Perrysville Avenue, Perry Hilltop, where a Celebration of Life Service will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday. Interment South Side Cemetery. Mr. Ponder was one of the world's "Great Jazz Guitarists!" Contributions can be made to the Jimmy Ponder Memorial Fund, Huntington Bank, account number 01100215024, Robinson Funeral Home, Inc., custodian.

Gonna miss my brother Jimmy. He was more than a teacher. He was an inspiration in my life. My mother being from Pittsburgh made our first encounter seem like destiny. It may have been silly them, but, since all I have left of him are the memories of those days gone by, I know now that it was real. RIP JP

It was an honor performing with Jimmy throughout the past 40 years. I last performed with him at a benefit in Homestead about two or so years ago... we had a ball. He was a brilliant musician.
Jimmy will truly be missed.
