Jo Fox Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 22, 2025.
New Bedford - Jo Anne Fox, 76, went peacefully to be with our Lord while at home on August 7, 2025. She was born at Gardiner General in January of 1949 to Leslie P. and Francis (Wilson) Martin and grew up in Richmond, ME.

Jo spent all of her career in Maine working with children and adults with different abilities. She enjoyed her work and continued to mentor young people after her retirement. Jo's quiet inner confidence and faith in God touched all she came in contact with. Those spiritual beliefs were clearly reflected in all areas of her life: be grateful for the blessings you have; and all people are children of God and deserve honor and respect. Jo spent most of her life in Maine until retirement, when she moved to Fairhaven to be with long-time friend Sharon and her husband Shawn Corley. She enjoyed kayaking, crafts, puzzles, playing the ukulele, and sharing her faith in a Facebook group, 3 Good Things. She loved the card game Hand and Foot especially during her illness. She surprised and endeared people with her quick wit. In her later years she was knicknamed "Mama Jo".

Sisters previously passed are Donna Marie Derr, Shirley Williams and Norine Martin. She is survived by her daughter-in-law Lorraine Fox-Jeans and granddaughter Alisha Fox, great grandchildren Devin, Ethan and Alix (Fox) Mitchell, and many uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. She is predeceased by her son, William Fox, who died in a motorcycle accident at age 25. They are forever reunited.

A celebration of Life service will be held Aug 30 at 2 pm at the Society of Senhor da Pedra in New Bedford. A graveside service will be at the Athens Cemetery in ME on Sept 13th at 10 am. In lieu of flowers, financial assistance for funeral expenses may be sent to Lorraine Fox-Jeans, P.O.Box 262, Athens, ME 04912.
