Joanne Warnett Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and The Province from Aug. 13 to Aug. 14, 2005.
WARNETT _ Joanne (nee McLean), passed away tragically in a car accident on August 2, 2005. Survived by her husband David; sons Stephen (Carly) and Paul; sister Robin (Peter); sister-in-law Barbara; nephews Andrew and Jeffrey; and nieces Deborah and Heather. Joanne was born July 4, 1948, in Toronto. After graduating from high school, she went to "Teachers College" to begin a career in teaching. She met her husband David while teaching at the same school in Toronto. She and David moved to Coquitlam in 1975 with their six month old twins in tow. After raising her children, she returned to the workforce as a special education assistant and as a piano teacher. She also was dedicated to her own education graduating with a Bachelors Degree from Simon Fraser University in 1999. Joanne's warm spirit and heart was reflected in her devotion to her husband and her unfailing commitment to provide happiness in her children's lives. She extended her heart to the wider community by her work in the school system. She loved gardening and looking after the beloved dogs, Beau and Jamie. Her smile, cheerfulness, and caring nature will be missed by her entire family. Joanne was blessed with many wonderful friends who will miss her spirit. The family would like to extend our thanks to the staff at Royal Columbian Hospital for caring for David following the same car accident. Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 pm, on August 19, 2005, at West Vancouver United Church, 2062 Esquimalt Avenue, West Vancouver, where Joanne loved the sound of the organ so very much. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or to any charity that encourages the education, health and welfare of underprivileged children in memory of Joanne would be greatly appreciated.

We would like to extend our deepest sympathy to the entire family during this very tragic and trying time. I was not fortunate enough to have met Mrs. Warnett but after having worked with you Steve, I can only imagine what an amazing woman she was.

In lieu of flowers, a donation has been made to “Kids Care” in your mother’s memory.

I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to the family at this time for the horrible and tragic loss that you have had to endure. I would also like to say that as both a parent of one of Joanne's former students at Ranch Park Elementary, and a neighbour, I am very glad to have known Joanne. She truly was a sincere, warm and caring person who never failed to provide encouragement and a smile.
