Joe Wayne Kaylor, age 82, passed away on Sunday, October 2, 2016, at home.

Born July 30, 1934 in Catawba County, he was the son of the late Oren Winfield Kaylor and Verdie Lena Sigmon Kaylor.

Joe was a graduate of Lenoir Rhyne College in Business Administration. He was a lifelong and active member of Concordia Lutheran Church in Conover, NC serving on the Stewardship board, Board of Elders, numerous call committees and was President of the congregation for many years. Joe was also involved in Conover City Government serving 30 years on the Conover Planning board and Catawba County Government by serving 8 years on the Catawba County Board of Equalization and Taxation. He received a Catawba County Distinguished Public Service Award for years of dedicated service as a member of the Unifour Air Pollution Control Board. Joe was active in local and national politics serving on various committees throughout the years.

He was employed with Southern Desk Company in Hickory, NC. He was President of Granline Furniture Company in Hickory, NC and Vice President of the case goods plant of Southern Furniture Company in Catawba, NC. In 1978, Joe along with other partners formed Pembrook Chair Corporation, which he ran until its closing in 2007. Joe owned Hardwood Furniture and was also co-owner of Piedmont Foam.

In addition to his parents, Joe is preceded in death by his brother, Hal Winfield Kaylor; sisters, Annie Kaylor Bolick, Margie Kaylor Abernethy, Maxine Kaylor Isenhower and Martha Nell Kaylor Walker.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 60 years, Doris Gantt Kaylor of the home, son, Jeff Kaylor and wife, Kelli of Conover; daughters, Doris Kaylor Goff and husband,Tom of Conover, Melinda Kaylor Parks and husband, Jake of Conover; grandchildren Steven Thomas Goff, Michael Ryan Goff, Matthew Hadyn Kaylor, Evan Winfield Kaylor, and Kristen Jo Kaylor; great-grandchild Mariana Jo Kaylor-Suddath.

A Service of Remembrance will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Friday, October 7, 2016 at Concordia Lutheran Church
in Conover with Rev. A. Mark Schudde and Rev. Ben Micheel officiating. Burial to follow at Conover City Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at the church prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial can be given to Concordia Christian Day School, 216 5th Avenue SE, Conover, NC 28613.

I am so sorry to learn about Mr. Kaylor's passing. He was a very good friend of my late mom and dad, Carmen and Elmer Lint. Mrs. Kaylor and Elfreda, I wish I could have attended the funeral today. You, and all of your family, is in my thoughts and prayers.

Our family has been so blessed with a legacy set before us by Uncle Joe, Pah-Pah, Aunt Annie, Aunt Martha, Aunt Margie, and Aunt Maxine. I know that Sunday afternoon they all welcomed Uncle Joe in with open arms. What an amazing family reunion. God is good. He struggles no more, but is in the arms of our Lord. Aunt Doris, Melinda, Elfreida, and Jeff our love is with you during these difficult days! Please know we love you all!
