John Davies Boote Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 20, 2025.
John Davies Boote, 73, died at his home on August 6, 2025. John was a longtime resident of Nevada City, California.

John was born in Chester, Pennsylvania (suburban Philadelphia). John was the youngest of the three sons of Robert O. Boote and Sara Davies McLaurin (Lansdale).

John graduated from Strathhaven High School in Wallingford, Pennsylvania, followed by Carnegie Mellon University with a Bachelor's and Master's degree in physics specializing in instrumentation.

After Carnegie Mellon, John headed to the West Coast with its vast opportunities to work in electronics, software and digital communication. John worked to develop early night vision systems, drilling systems telemetry and digital video transmission. He worked at a few different technology companies including Rockwell, Tektronics, and Grass Valley Group and among other responsibilities he invented a number of patented technology advances involving video transmission and digital chip combinations.

John loved Northern California. During his leisure time, he panned for gold and, at times, included his niece, nephew and cousins on his outdoor adventures. He also enjoyed long conversations about outdoor activities and discussion of evolving technologies with family. John will be well remembered, among family and friends, for his gentle, generous and loving spirit.

John is survived by his brothers, Robert of Bethesda, Maryland and Richard of Laguna Woods, California, as well as his nieces Amanda Santella, Susie Boote, Fletcher Boote, and Eliza Boote and nephew, Alexander Boote.

A memorial dinner for friends and family is being planned for September in Nevada City for John's friends and family able to travel to Nevada City, California. At that time, we hope to share recollections of our shared times with John. John will be cremated, and his remains will be laid to rest at the Deer Creek Cemetery in Nevada City.

The family would be most grateful if friends and colleagues of John could share thoughts and memories of times shared, especially if you cannot attend the memorial dinner. Please forward your memories to [email protected].
