John EBERTS Obituary

Published by Regina Leader-Post on Apr. 29, 2015.
JOHN PAUL EBERTS
John, late of Lumsden/Regina Beach, SK passed away on Monday, April 27, 2015 at the age of 89 years. He was born in Holdfast, SK and lived there until his marriage to Sis, when they then moved to the farm on what is well known as Dundee Acres. John remained on the farm until December, 2013 at which time he moved to the Lumsden Manor. During his years, John became well recognized for his musical abilities and his zest for living and hard work. His greatest interest, which later became a hobby, was working with his horses. His ethic of hard work enabled him and Sis to build a successful farming operation from scratch. While working tirelessly at the farm, he also managed the Regina Beach Community Pasture and served many years as the trouble man for the phone company. John was a charter member of the Lumsden and District Lions Club, Lumsden Old time Rockers Hockey team, their musical band and the Qu'Appelle Valley Horse Pull Club. He was a leader in the Dundee 4-H Beef Club for many years, and also well known for the Harvest Extravaganza that drew crowds to Dundee Acres from all over the countryside. During his retirement he and Sis spent many a winter in Mesa, Arizona, where John was a keen organizer of the Can-Ams slow pitch team and all the socialization that went with it. John received many awards for his volunteer and work achievements. John is survived by son Ron Eberts, Calgary; daughter Marilyn Wickenheiser (Tom), Calgary; son Gordon Eberts, Regina Beach; son Leonard Eberts (Rhonda), Provost; daughter-in-law Jeannette Eberts, Craven; son Johnny Eberts Jr (Susan), Regina Beach; dear friend and companion Donna Whitta, Lumsden; sixteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren; sisters Lizzy Geiss and Rosemarie Hubich both of Regina; sister-in-law Josie Ackerman, Regina, brother-in-law Al Frohlich, Lethbridge; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife, Cecelia Margaret Eberts (Ackerman), more fondly known as Sis; son Timothy; his parents Edward and Rosa Eberts; six sisters: Ida Fuchs, Anne Wingert, Regina Matlock, Annemarie McRitchie, Emelia Frohlich, Katherine Chandler; three brothers: Anthony (Tony) Eberts, Pius Eberts, Steve Eberts. The family wish to thank Dr. Faizel and staff, Pasqua Hospital nurses and staff, Regina General Hospital nurses and staff, Lumsden Pharmacy and staff, Precious Memories Care Home, Regina Rural Homecare, Kathy Reimer, and special thank you to nephew Bob Eberts and niece Eileen Eberts. Funeral Mass will be held in Lumsden Centennial Hall, Friday, May 1, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. Interment in Lumsden Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations can be sent, in memory of John, to the Lumsden and District Lions Club, Lumsden, SK. To leave an online message of condolence, please visit www.speersfuneralchapel.com

John I have so many good memories from the farm, Harvest Extravaganza, horse pulling, spending time with you and your family, and winter sleigh rides. I will miss your huge bear hugs thinking I was going to get a rib broken then you'd give me a head rub and mess my hair, which you knew I hated when you did that. I wish I could have one more hug and head rub. I will miss you. Condolences to all the Eberts family. I am thinking of all of you at this time.

Uncle Johnny you were the Patriarch of the family, You, with your accordion, your songs, and your stories. You touched us all in so many ways. I remember going to the farm and getting to ride the horses and the community pasture and the boys having some knock down, drag out, fights. I remember your mock weddings where you always read from the book of numbers ( telephone book). I remember you with your brothers and sisters having such a wonderful time together. You are almost all in heaven now and I know your playing your accordion and singing once again. I love you Uncle John and the memories you have given me. RIP you are truly going to be missed.
