La Quinta - John F. Mangan of La Quinta, CA passed away peacefully on Monday, March 10, 2025, at Eisenhower Hospital at the age of 88. He is fondly remembered for his love of family, his children, and athletics.

John was born August 16, 1936, in Washington, D.C. the youngest of 4 children of Elsie H. Mangan and Thomas J. Mangan Jr. who moved to Villanova, PA.

He is survived by his loving wife of 34 years, Lynne (Seymour) of Sydney, AU as well as five children he adored: Elizabeth Mangan Peter of Scottsdale, AZ; John Jr. (Frances) Mangan of Charlotte, NC; Patrick (Delinda) Mangan of NYC; Bill (Meg) Mangan of Greenwich CT; James (Katie) Mangan of Winnetka, IL; as well as 13 grandchildren Matt, Katherine, Julia, Francie, Elizabeth, Caroline, Kevin, Kathleen, Jimmy, Mikey, Peter, Matty and Jaynie. Additionally, he is survived by his sister, Joanna Kennard of Amelia Island, FL; his former wife, Patricia Melim, and numerous nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his beloved son, Daniel Mangan, of San Francisco, CA; his sister, Barbara Pitocchelli of Rosemont, PA; and his brother, Thomas Mangan of Summit, NJ.

A graduate of The Haverford School in 1955 and University of Pennsylvania, in 1959, where he was elected to the Sphinx Senior Honor Society and was a three-sport athlete. He became an owner of a NYSE membership in 1964 and in 1968 he became a Partner of Pershing & Company. In 1978 he established his own privately funded venture capital firm, Rose Investment Company in NYC and later San Francisco. In 1986 he was named President & CEO of Prudential-Bache Capital Partners. He served on 12 different corporate board of directors including First Republic Bank, San Francisco.

He supported and served on the Board of Directors of the National Arthritis Foundation, Northern California Chapter; Seton Health Services Foundation, San Francisco Heart Institute; St. Ignatius Preparatory School, San Francisco, CA.

He played in 5 US Open tennis tournaments (Forest Hills). His most cherished and proudest athletic achievement was playing in the National USTA Father & Son Tennis Tournaments with 4 different sons; was Nationally ranked 8 years in the top 10 with 3 different sons and won the National Clay Court Father & Son in 1979. In Platform Tennis (Paddle) he won the National Men's Doubles 2 times, 1972, 1973. He was elected to the American Platform Tennis Association Hall of Fame in 2007. He was also elected to the Haverford School Athletic Hall of Fame in 2010.

Additionally, he was a long-standing member of multiple clubs around the country including NYC River Club, NY Athletic Club, Olympic Club (SF), and Citrus Club (La Quinta). John also served as Treasurer and Board Member of the Glenbrook Club, Glenbrook, NV.

John will be greatly missed by all as a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

A Memorial Mass & Celebration of Life will be held at Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, La Quinta CA on Monday, March 31, 2025, at 12:00 pm.

Memorial Gifts are requested to be made in memory of his beloved son Danny Mangan, to the Desert AIDS Project of Palm Springs CA.
