John Pipes Goodson

John Pipes Goodson, Jr., 70 years of age, passed away on March 26th after a brave battle with Alzheimers. He was born on June 18, 1953, in Shreveport, Louisiana to John Pipes Goodson, Sr. and Joyce Miller Goodson. John grew up in Shreveport and was a 1973 graduate of Captain Shreve High School. After graduating, he attended Louisiana Tech in Ruston, and later attended Centenary College in Shreveport, where he earned a Master of Science Degree. He later was awarded a prestigious A.I. Levorsen Memorial Award by the American Association of Petroleum Geologists for Best Paper Co-Author in the Gulf Coast Section, AAPG.

John married Gail Brewer Dean on June 21, 1988, in Shreveport, Louisiana, and they lived there until 2006 when they moved to Frisco, Texas, where their home remains. He worked as a petroleum geologist, with a very successful career, until his retirement in 2008. After retirement, he spent many hours snow skiing, golfing, and riding ATVs. He was a devoted husband to his wife Gail, and an incredible father to his four daughters. John was very outgoing, loved talking, and never met a stranger, earning him the nickname "Fresh ears" by his best friend, because of his ability to elaborate on any given subject with those he met. He always had the ability to make anyone at ease around him.

John is survived by his wife, Gail, his four daughters Carrie deVries (Maurice), Elizabeth Greely (John), Katherine Hodgins (Trey), and Kindall McElwee; and seven grandchildren, Reese deVries and John Marshall deVries, Alex and Maddie Dupuy, Nicholas, Anna Katherine and Brady Hodgins. He is also survived by his brother Charles T. Goodson (Jeannie), and many loving nieces and nephews.

A Memorial and Celebration honoring John will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, in Shreveport, Louisiana at East Ridge Country Club, between 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
