I remember Mr. Jack Kershaw very well when he coached rugby at Lowerplace School and lived on Greenhill Avenue, Falinge, Rochdale. I played rugby for St. Patrick's and Spotland Rangers. Many good hard games. Mr. Kershaw was always a disciplinarian - very fair and a real gentleman.

I'm forever grateful to Jack because he gave me my first teaching post, at Howarth Cross. It was a wonderful middle school to work in because Jack structured it tightly. He gave me the opportunity to teach a great bunch of students over the years. And so many students who comment on their years at Howarth Cross say how much they enjoyed it. That's a fitting tribute to Jack.

I remember Mr Kershaw and all the great teachers as a pupil at Howarth Cross in the early 80s He was or seemed very strict,if only they were like that now a well respected teacher as they all were,
I can see him now walking down those corridors,I hope he knew he was fondly remembered by pupils

I remember Mr Kershaw as a strict but caring head at Howarth Cross School in the mid 70s.
His philosophy on life stood me in good stead in later years.
My own grandfather knew him well and his respect for "jack" was passed down to me.
What a sad loss.

What a sad day when I heard that Jack passed away.He was someone I looked upto during my early days living close to Lowerplace school. I had played rugby for a team that Jack coached, and later played for hornets, he was an encourager and I'm proud to have called him a friend.
