John Langley Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 30, 2024.
John "Tommy" Langley, 85, passed away on January 28, 2024, in Mobile, Alabama. He was born on December 20, 1938 in Columbus, Georgia. John, known affectionately as Tommy, was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

Tommy was truly one-of-a-kind. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him, would say he was one of the kindest men you would ever meet. You would never hear him raise his voice, or speak badly of anyone. He had the patience of a Saint, and would give anyone needing help a hand. His wife, Sarah, was his whole world and their love was one for storybooks. He cherished every moment spent with her and his family. When he wasn't working on his "honey do" list, you could find him carpooling his great-grandchildren to their activities, or taking care of their favorite child (dog) "CoCo." He found joy in bringing happiness to and taking care of others.

Aside from his family, Tommy's greatest devotion was to the military. He proudly served for 21 years in the Air Force, retiring as Chief Master Sergeant, in 1978. During his military career, he received numerous awards, the Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam was one he was always most proud of. Tommy's dedication to his country was unwavering.

After retiring from the Air Force, Tommy spent the rest of his working years at Thompson Tractor, in Birmingham, Alabama. He was a hardworking and dedicated employee, always giving his best and providing for his family.

Tommy is preceded in death by his Mother and Father, Mary and James Langley, as well as his brother James Langley. He is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Sarah Langley, and their three sons: Ted Langley and his wife Lynn Langley, Todd Langley and Tracy Langley, and Tim Langley and his wife Valarie Langley. He also leaves behind four grandchildren and their spouses: Rebekah and Rusty McCarron, Shannon and Jonathan Haynes, Ashlee and Brandon Summerville, and Nick and Madi Haas. Additionally, Tommy is survived by eight great-grandchildren: Ava, Sarah Kate, Cooper, Addison, Troy, Norah, Olivia, and Clark. He was awaiting the arrival of his ninth great-grandchild, Callum, in March. Tommy is also survived by his brother and his wife, Billy and Sally Langley.

Tommy's life will be celebrated February 1st, at 2pm, at Radney Funeral Home, 3155 Dauphin Street, Mobile, Alabama 36606. Prior to the service, visitation will be held from 1-2pm at the funeral home.

Tommy will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. His legacy of love, kindness, and devotion will forever be cherished.

Tommy was our neighbor while we lived at Patrick AF Base in Florida. Our friendship continued long after the military days. I have such sweet memories of Tommy, Sarah and their boys. He was a true friend. I will be praying for you Sarah, Ted, Tim, Todd and your families in the difficult days ahead , God grace is sufficient! And may He comfort you as only He can. God bless you, I love you!
