John Locke Obituary

At the age of 24 years John R. Locke IV (known to the family as "Jack 4") died on September 9, 2017, a tragic loss for his family and all who knew him. He is survived by his devoted parents, Jack Locke, III and his wife Carol Gainey Locke, his sister Grace Gainey Locke and brother, Stacy Sylvan Locke, his grandmother Sissy Gainey, his grandfather, Jack Locke, Jr., uncles, Carey, Stacy and Philip Locke and Mark Gainey, and aunts, Marcia Archer and Cary Straus, and many first cousins living in Texas, Maryland and New York, who loved him very much; also by his Canadian born Great Dane Seumas.

Jack 4 lived his whole life in San Antonio except two years spent in Canada while attending the University of Toronto.

Jack 4 aspired to be a professional investment advisor. This, despite the fact he lacked a college degree as well as any experience working for an investment firm. In evaluating a company he would not read the opinions of others but would rely entirely on his own intensive analysis of the company's financials and other available information. Having reached a conclusion, Jack 4 had complete confidence in it. He was not concerned by fluctuations in the market price of the company's securities.

Jack 4 was a prolific reader - particularly of books others found too difficult, many involving the French revolution and Roman history. He enjoyed playing chess and bridge, fly fishing and bird hunting. During his brief foray into golf he scored a hole in one. More recently he started to play tennis where as in other sports because of his unusually good coordination, it came easy to him. He was a quick learner and showed great promise.

Jack 4 did not fit anyone's mold. He was very intelligent, a free thinker and independent. On any subject he did his own reasoning and reached his own conclusions. Once reached, he was confident in it.

Jack 4 had an engaging smile and a warm personality. He loved his family. His favorite thing was time spent with members of his family.

Goodbye Jack 4. We cherish the years you spent with us. We will never stop thinking of what might have been. We love you.

I am so sorry. We lost our son at 16 and can only extend our heartfelt sympathy to your family, knowing the difficulty of waking up every day to the unbelievable. Healing is already in progress. One day you will be able to laugh again, and that will make Jack so happy. With empathy, Sharron.
