Brooklyn, NY - The memorial service for John Saint Julien Morehead was held on March 10, 2018 at the Brooklyn Historical Society in Brooklyn, New York. John was born on November 10, 1971 in Shreveport, Louisiana and passed away peacefully at home in Park Slope, Brooklyn on February 11, 2018, after an almost five-year battle with ALS. John graduated from Central High School in Grand Cane, Louisiana, did his undergraduate work at the Scholars College at Northwestern State University in Natchitoches, and received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. John was a prestigious veterinary surgeon who practiced at Animal Kind, a large Brooklyn hospital, with a small-town quality of attention to his patients and their owners, and they loved him for it. He occasionally forgot the names of the owners, but never that of their pets. Many will remember his funny and poignant tales, chosen from childhood through parenthood.

He is survived by his wife Shawn Vietor Morehead and daughters Madeline Morehead and Wilhelmina Morehead; parents Diana Dixon Gingles and husband Bill Gingles, Lester Cox Morehead, Jr. and wife Deborah Betts Morehead; brothers, Lester Cox Morehead III and Samuel Frierson Morehead; step brother Douglas Ray Pearce, Kelli Pearce Pennington; nieces Genevieve Morehead, Mei-Ling Morehead; nephews Nathan Morehead, and David Morehead.
