John David Murdaugh

John David Murdaugh passed away May 2, 2009 at the Las Palmas Assisted Living Home in Tucson, Arizona at the age of 94. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Margaret, and his twin brother, Raymond. John is survived by his wife, Verla; son, Glen; step daughter, Sharon and her husband, Joseph of Washington; two grandsons, Scott of Florida, and Jeff and his wife, Heather; a great-grandson, Jonathan, a great-granddaughter, Leann of Tucson. John joined the CCC (Cilvilian Conservations Corps) for two years in Alpena, Michigan where he met his first wife, Margaret. John volunteered for the U.S. Navy in WWII where he attained the rank of Petty Officier 1st Class. He was assigned as a gunner on a PPY doing anti-sub patrol in Florida. He worked his way into Aviation Ordenance and served on the aircraft carriers Roi and Intrepid. After his discharge on December 1, 1945 he worked at Dodge Truck in Detroit, Michigan before taking a job in the U.S. Postal Service where he retired in 1979. In 1976, he married his present wife, Verla and they moved to Tucson in 1979. John's wonderful sense of humor has rewarded him with many friends. He had many interests including Leader in Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, received his Pilot License in 1946, loved camping, hunting, fishing, traveling and much more.
