Johnson SUN Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix from Jan. 14 to Jan. 15, 2015.

SUN, Johnson
It is with deep sorrow that the family of Johnson Sun announces his sudden passing on Saturday night, January 11, 2015, at the age of 22. Johnson was born in Saskatoon, the third of four children to Oeun and Sery Sun. Johnson attended St. Mark elementary school and Mother Teresa, before moving on to St. Joseph High School. He was enrolled at the University of Saskatchewan in Geology, and worked at Captive Audience, where his spirit and dreams flourished. Johnson could often be found at the library, or in lower Place Riel, leading the student life and hanging out with his friends between classes. He brought many people together, cultivating many friendships through his easy-going and genuine personality. His spirit touched many around campus, with friends from all disciplines and walks of life. He always found time to be a part of everyone's lives; from a quick conversation in the halls to a chance to make someone smile. He was a born leader who cared for everyone regardless of who they were. Only the loved can truly have as many friends and people who cared dearly for him. Johnson offered his spare time to many children in the community, from coaching football for the Arns Falcons, to the before and after school program at Forest Grove. Working with children was so much more than a job to him, he was more than a coach or mentor, he was a friend, a role model, and a confidant. Johnson loved to travel with his friends, and dreamt of many more destinations and festivals. Travelling with Johnson was an adventure in its own, making the journey just as memorable as the destination. Along the way, he never met strangers, only new friends. Forever remembered for his beautiful smile and caring personality; he will live on in our memories and the way he shaped our dreams. Johnson will be lovingly remembered by his parents Oeun and Sery; his siblings Sokamony, Sokhamolida, and Alexander; and countless relatives and friends. A public viewing will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2015, from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and Sunday, January 18 from 1:00 p.m. to 1:45 p.m. at Hillcrest Funeral Home (east on 8th St, first right past Briargate Rd) with a Memorial Service to begin at 2:00 p.m. Donations in Johnson's memory may be made to the YMCA Saskatoon (25 – 22nd St East, Saskatoon, SK S7K 0C7) or the Children's Wish Foundation, Saskatchewan Chapter (3602 Millar Avenue, Saskatoon, SK S7K 3L3). Family and friends may send online condolences from www.hillcrestmemorial.ca Arrangements are entrusted to Charmaine Menard.

Johnson coached my football team this year and coached my position, he was always at practices and games improving me and the team. Throughout the season I really got to know Johnson cause he coached my position "D line" and he always told me how and what to do things, in football and in life he was like an older brother to me. I'm greatly sorry that he has passed and he shall not be forgotten in my heart.

It is unfortunate that a light as bright as Johnson's was extinguished so soon, he has inspired so many people and was a very unique and loving individual. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Sun family. Rest in peace Johnson, you will be missed but never forgotten.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Sun family on the loss of your son and brother. I hope you take some comfort knowing what a remarkable and amazing young man he was. His dedication in his short lifetime to others, especially children, was greater than most. For the 39 boys he dedicated tireless hours to coaching football, he will never be forgotten, and I know the example he has set for them may one day encourage them to be just like him. Fast, Focus, Finish...
