JOSE MORENO QUIROGA
McALLEN - Jose Moreno Quiroga, 79, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Doctors Hospital at Renaissance after a courageous 7 year battle with cancer. He was preceded in death by his parents Ignacio Moreno Garza and San Juanita Quiroga Saenz, his brother, Ignacio Moreno Quiroga and his two sisters, Otila Moreno Olivarez and Estella Moreno Olivarez, and his half brothers, Victorino Canales Quiroga and Claudio Canales Quiroga and half sister Isidora Canales Quiroga.
He was born in Congregacion-Garza "El Charco Escondido" Tamaulipas, Mexico. He later came to the United States and worked in California in Construction for the utility company Water and Power in the early 60's. In the early 70's he returned to the Valley and established the original "Starlite Burger" restaurant in McAllen, Texas. He loved meeting people and loved exchanging interesting and historical stories. He was always willing to lend a helping hand and will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife of 52 years; Maria de Socorro Moreno Moran of McAllen, his four sons; Jose (Elizabeth) Moreno Jr. of Mission, Javier Moreno of McAllen, Alberto (Ana) Moreno of McAllen and Gerardo Moreno of McAllen. Also left to cherish his memory are 4 grandchildren; Genesis, Ileana, Hannah and Valeria Moreno.
Visitation will be held from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday, March 2, 2010 with a rosary being recited at 7 p.m. at Ceballos Funeral Home in McAllen, Texas. Funeral Mass will be said at 11 a.m. Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in McAllen, Tx. The Moreno family has entrusted Ceballos Funeral Home directors and staff to handle the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers please make a donation to American Cancer Society.
