I played in Joe's big band for several years and was always impressed by his good cheer and kind spirit. I admired his dedication to his church and community.

Katie (Piper Mansperger) and I have wonderful memories of our childhood and teen years at East Shore, with Joe featured in many of them through his educational mentoring and music. Easter was always the highlight of the year as his brass ensemble announced the resurrection. Our love to Marlene and their extended family. I know our parents (Jean and Walter Piper) would share our appreciation and respect for Joe's many gifts and contributions to the East Shore community.

My fondest memories of Joe were during my high school years as a Key Club member and his selfless service as a Kiwanian in mentoring me and so many other youth in Euclid. Enjoy the eternal glory Joe!

I knew Joe from my years at Euclid High, graduating in 1961. More than a decade ago, I began funding the annual Freed Family Scholarship to a graduating senior. With Joe as head of the Euclid Schools Foundation, we exchanged letters every year. His commitment to his own big family and the bigger family of everyone who has gone to Euclid High School has been extraordinary. My deepest sympathy to Joe's family and to all of us who knew him as a devoted friend.
