Judith Woolsey Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 24, 2025.
Mrs. Judith Hope "Judy" Woolsey (née Leaver) passed away peacefully on August 12, 2025, at UCSD Jacobs Medical Center in La Jolla, California, with her children at her side. Born on June 22, 1938, in Trenton, New Jersey, Judy lived a life marked by compassion, service, and dedication to education and community.

Judy graduated from Hamilton High in Trenton before pursuing higher education at the University of Delaware and Central Michigan University. She earned her degree in Education, laying the foundation for a lifelong commitment to helping children succeed academically and personally.

Throughout her life, Judy had a special heart for children who faced challenges in school. She devoted countless hours as a volunteer, offering support and encouragement to those who needed extra help. Her passion extended beyond the classroom-she developed parent volunteer programs in several schools and was selected to serve as a community representative for various public-school initiatives in Florida. Her efforts left a lasting impact on students, families, and educators alike.

Judy's sense of community extended into her personal life as well. She was actively involved in numerous ladies' social groups, prayer circles, and church activities. Her warmth and generosity enriched the lives of those around her and created enduring bonds within each group she joined. Judy's compassion for others was evident in all that she did.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Richard Alvin Woolsey; her sister, Kay Brady; her brother, Sonny Leaver; and her parents, Alvin and Natalie Leaver.

Judy is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Rhonda Picou, and Rhonda's children: Brook Welch, Natalie Gerace, and Micah Picou; as well as by her son, Rick Woolsey, and his wife, Heidi, along with their sons, Jacob, Chad, Jared, and Cameron. Her legacy continues through them and all who were touched by her kindness.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to her sitters and the many healthcare providers at The Oasis, UCSD Healthcare Clinics, and Jacobs Medical Center for their exceptional care and compassion.

May her memory bring comfort to those who knew her. A service to celebrate Judy's life will be held at Mission Hills Church in San Marcos, California, on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at 2:00 p.m.
