Katherine Summers, Dull, age 100, passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on the evening of May 16, 2024. Born on August 25, 1923 in East Chicago, Indiana, she lived a life marked by love, resilience, joy and dedication to her family.

Katherine was a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

She led a rich and fulfilling life, characterized by her nurturing spirit and unwavering support for her loved ones. Her kindness and generosity were felt by all who knew her, and she touched many lives with her warmth and compassion.

Her parents settled in the United States during the first wave of immigration in the late 1890's from Croatia, learning the English language and finding work to support their families.

During World War II, as her husband Frank flew B-17's over Europe, Katherine worked in a munitions factory in Chicago to support the war effort.

Even though she endured many tragic losses, including losing her mother as a child, her husband in her early 40s, her eldest son in a military jet crash and a daughter to cancer, Katherine's indomitable spirit persevered and she continued to live life with joy and an ever-abiding faith.

She is survived by her daughters, Kathleen Simpson (Kendall) of Newport Beach, California, Beth Daring of San Antonio, Texas, son Chris Duel (Elizabeth Settle) of San Antonio, Texas, daughter-in-law Mary Lou King (Dick) of Galveston, Texas, sister Josephine Shelp of Peoria, Arizona, grandchildren Tara Simpson D'Ambrosia (Matt) of Newport Beach, California, Brooke Simpson Fisher (Al) of Birmingham, Michigan, Grant C. Dull of Los Angeles, California, Taylor Dull of Houston, Texas, Katherine Tisdale Green of Ewa Beach, Hawaii, Ron Grundy (Kadeidra) of Oahu, Hawaii, Kris Grundy of Augusta, Georgia, Alison Schulze (Eric) of Dallas, Texas, Matt McCoy (Flannery) of Dallas, Texas and Haley Upson (Harley Johnson) of San Antonio, Texas. She has 15 great grandchildren: Kendall D'Ambrosia, Dash D'Ambrosia, Joseph Fisher, Luke Fisher, Ashton Dull, Veda Schulze, Owen Schulze, Karlin Contreras, Justice Grundy, Isaiah Grundy, Isabella Grundy, Layla Grundy, Jade Grundy, Heather Johnson and Althea McCoy. She has a great great granddaughter, Patience Contreras.

She was preceded in death by her mother Anna Huszar Summers, father Louis C. Summers, husband Major Frank J. Dull (USAF), son Captain Gregory F. Dull (USAF), daughter Rosemary Dull Eaton, son-in-law Robert Russell "Rusty" Daring, sister Mary Ancich and sister Annie Welborne.

Throughout her century-long journey, Katherine witnessed remarkable changes in the world and adapted to them with grace and wisdom. Her strength and perseverance were an inspiration to everyone around her.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and cherished memories.

Visitation and Rosary will be 5-8pm on Monday, June 3rd at Sunset North Funeral Home, 910 North Loop 1604 East.

Funeral service will be held at 11am on Tuesday June 4th at St. Joseph's Roman Catholic Chapel, 7815 Orland Park in San Antonio. Funeral mass will be celebrated by Katherine's grand nephew, Father Brandon Haenny of Post Falls, Idaho.

A burial service will follow at Ft Sam Houston National Cemetery, Shelter 1.

Katherine will be deeply missed, but her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.
