Katie Plunkett Wooldridge Beaver, 97, passed away on October 5, 2024, in Roanoke, Va. Born on July 9, 1927, in Lynchburg, Va, Katie was a beacon of kindness and generosity throughout her life.

Katie completed her education at EC Glass High School and went on to earn a business degree. She married Cecil Wooldridge on February 14, 1947, and they shared 42 wonderful years together until his passing. Katie later married Dewey Beaver, who also preceded her in death. Her professional life was marked by her role as secretary/treasurer at Emmanuel Baptist Church, where she served diligently for 11 years.

A brilliant mind, Katie was a member of MENSA, reflecting her intellectual prowess. Her creative spirit shone through in the hundreds of personalized Christmas stockings she knitted for family and friends, a testament to her thoughtful and giving nature. Katie's commitment to her faith was evident in her regular tithing to Shiloh United Methodist Church and her charitable donations to St. Jude's Hospital.

Katie was the epitome of love and kindness, always brightening the days of those around her with her daily good morning and goodnight, Facebook posts. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth and generosity, survived by her children Sally Chronister (Frank), Susan Hagar (Mike), Kackie Allen (Bobby), Peter Wooldridge (Jeff), and Lee Ann Boone (Richard), along with 14 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister, Linda Davis, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Katie was preceded in death by her parents Jane and Robert Plunkett, her siblings Frances, Robert, Edward, Jane, Charles, and Yvonne, her son Stephen Charles Wooldridge, and her great-granddaughter Makayla King.

A celebration of life will be held on October 19, 2024, at 11 am at Shiloh United Methodist Church, officiated by Pastor Steve Kidd. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude's Hospital, honoring Katie's lifelong commitment to helping others.

Katie was the last of my double-first cousins; I am sad to hear of her death. Because of the difference in our ages, I didn´t really know Katie very well myself, but I know my siblings (who´re all gone now) loved her dearly. So I loved her dearly, too, and I looked forward to her frequent Facebook posts. My heartfelt condolences and love go out to all of her wonderful family. Much love, Mary Lou Plunkett Sommardahl

I am very proud to own one of Aunt Katie´s hand-knit stockings! My father adored his big sister Katie. Even though she was only 2 1/2 years older than him, she helped their mother take care of him. I enjoyed reading her Facebook posts every day. Many prayers for comfort for everyone during this time.
