Kay Link Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jul. 30, 2018.
Kay Senter Link, 69 of Southport and formerly of Welcome, passed away on July 30, 2018.

Kay was born April 13, 1949 in St. Louis, Missouri to the late Alvin and Irene Senter. She was raised in Kirkwood, Missouri and was a graduate of High Point College.

Survivors include her daughter, Carrie Reep, and husband, Josh, of Oak Island; a son, Jason Link, and wife, Missy; and two grandchildren, James Link and Callie Link, all of Lake Jackson, Texas.

She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She felt immense joy in being a grandmother and loved doing special things for James and Callie. She believed in celebrating the small things and never missed an opportunity to celebrate life's moments with James and Callie. She even watched their school announcements online so she would know what was happening in their daily lives after they moved to Texas. She was a beloved GiGi.

Kay taught at Reeds Elementary School for 25 years, having retired in 2012. She had an impact on countless students. She was a favorite teacher of many, and she especially loved the students that had difficulties in learning or challenging home situations.

She was a true friend to many, maintained lifelong friendships, and enjoyed spending time with new friends in Southport. When she moved, her guest room was often filled with friends who would come visit. She treated her children's friends as if they were part of the family. She was a bright light in many people's lives.

Kay was a very caring person, had a great fondness for animals, and enjoyed showing her love in various ways such as buying a meal for a police officer, baking her famous blonde brownies for people in times of need, and supporting animal rescue organizations.

The family invites friends to drop in between 2:00 and 5:00 p.m. on August 18th at the fellowship hall of Pinedale Christian Church in Winston-Salem, NC to share their memories and celebrate Kay's life.

Memorial contributions in memory of Kay may be made to the charity of your choice; or in memory of Kay, please consider performing a random act of kindness in a way that she would have, such as buying a meal for a stranger, volunteering at an elementary school, supporting a family having financial difficulties around the holidays, or walking a dog at an animal shelter.

Jason and Carrie, My sincere sympathies on the loss of your mother. I remember her well from Welcome school when she substituted and she was a grade parent when Jason was in my classroom. Kay was a kind, caring person. I know you have wonderful memories and she will be missed greatly.
