Keith Eastman Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 27 to Aug. 1, 2010.
Eastman, Keith M. age 60, of Edina lost his battle with cancer on July 25, 2010. He was happily living at home with his beloved wife Holly until 4 days before his death. Keith was supported throughout by the love and unselfishness of his 4 children, Charles, Michael, Jacqueline and Victoria, as well as the outpouring of help from his many, many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Eugene Eastman. Besides his wife Holly and their four children, Keith is survived by his mother Jean Eastman, his sister Kathleen (Ray Greva) Uskert, nephews Derek (Shera Raisen) Uskert and Christopher (Dominique) Uskert and their families; and Holly's wonderful Haugland family including her father Douglas (Helene) Haugland, sister Teri (Win Yonan) Haugland, and brothers Scott (Jody) Haugland and Mark Haugland and their families. Keith's devotion to his children was evidenced by supporting them in all facets of their lives including visiting them when they traveled to foreign cities for academic studies and employment. He became a world traveler because of his children. After graduating from Carleton (BA) and the University of Chicago (MBA,) Keith began a long and fruitful career as a public accountant, venture capitalist, entrepreneur and business advisor, helping scores of Minnesota companies and entrepreneurs. As a venture capitalist he was an early backer of Golden Valley Microwave, the pioneers of microwave popcorn. He later co-founded Spine- Tech and served as its CFO through an IPO and up to an acquisition by Sulzer Medica. He briefly returned to venture capital before becoming CFO of Disc Dynamics. Keith enjoyed entertaining friends and family and also tending to his gardens; especially the ones at his lake home on Crane Island which throughout the years has become the family's retreat. Memorial service 11 a.m. on Monday at St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, 4439 West 50th Street, Edina 55424. Lunch immediately following at the Edina Country Club across the street from the church. Parking during the service available at Edina Country Club. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Stephen's Church.

Holly

Yes, this is way too late. But I just learned. Keith was a good friend and, more than that, just plain good. My heart, and my prayers, are with you and your kids. I'm so sad.

I remember seeing Keith really happy at a party for the sons and daughters of dinner club. It was time to cut the cake. The frosting was
goey. Keith produced some dental floss and demonstrated how to cut the cake without frosting sticking to the knife. His creativity was used in service of others and a good-time. It was good to see him beaming.

Holly, Charles, Mike, Jackie, and Vicki,
Bob and I and John and Jim send our heartfelt sympathies to you. Since we first met over 20 years ago, we have built wonderful memories with your family. You and Keith always supported first John in his theatre pursuits, then Bob in his - providing post-show parties to celebrate with Keith's latest wine purchase. Please know that we are here to help you in anything you need.

With love, Marty Sedoff and family

Holly and family-Having known Keith for 42 years since our freshman year at Carleton, I have so many great memories of times together with him. Getting to meet you and your family through Keith has also brought me many great memories as well. Keith and you were always great hosts when we got together either at your house or at the lake. I still remember the great engagement dinner that you hosted for Jason and Tatjana after they announced that they were going to get married. Maria and I had a great evening with Mike in London last fall and I know that Keith will live on through your four great children. I trust that you will reach out to us if you need anything in the days to come.

Holly, I cannot tell you how many times in the past 18 months Keith reached out to me. He was always there when I needed to chat. I miss him. He spoke always of great joy of you and the kids. As you know I have met with Mike a number of times and know that Keith's influences will live on. May faith, family and friends get you through the days and months ahead.
