Kenneth Edwin Thuleen, 90, of Granite Shoals, Texas passed away May 14, 2021. He was born to Edwin Kenneth and Edith (Murphy) Thuleen on January 12, 1931 in Burlington, Iowa.
Ken graduated from High School in Burlington and shortly thereafter selflessly joined the United States Air Force where he served honorably for four years. During training at Lackland Air Force Base he met and married the love of his life, Thelma Macias. After his Honorable Discharge, Ken and Thelma moved to Iowa and helped on his family farm. After a season of unfavorable crop growing weather, the couple moved back to San Antonio and Ken started his career with the San Antonio Police Department. He served the citizens of San Antonio as an officer for twenty-seven years and received numerous awards and commendations. After leaving the SAPD, he continued his service working as a Chief Investigator for the Bexar County District Attorney’s office until his retirement in 1998.
Retirement brought the couple to their property in Granite Shoals, Texas. He enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, traveling the U.S. with his travel trailer, and perfecting his BBQ skills. His BBQ chicken was second to none and even made the San Antonio newspaper and was dubbed “The Cooking Cop”. Ken was a member of the Highland Lakes Church of Christ and was very proud of his time serving as an Elder for the congregation.
Ken is survived by his loving wife of sixty nine years, Thelma Thuleen of Granite Shoals, Texas; children, Kenneth Earl Thuleen and wife Jungsil of San Antonio, Texas, Jeffrey Thuleen of Kingsland, Texas, James Thuleen and wife Rebecca of Granite Shoals, Texas, Earlene Montero of San Antonio, Texas, Vonaceil Chandler and husband Gary of Brownwood, Texas and Pam Stephens and husband Richard of Marion, Texas; siblings, Sue Taft and Frank Thuleen, and sister-in-law, Sue Thuleen. Kenneth Thuleen was a man among men and helped me set goals to be a good police officer early in my careen. He was a much respected by friends and crooks alike. He was a stern but fair man and very effective at solving robberies. Together with his partner Charlie M., they were the power team on the eastside. Somewhere he acquired the nickname "Capt Bodeen", I suspect from a street person who could not pronounce his name correctly. His interview techniques were legendary and usually resulted in a confession. He was my hero. Rest in Peace my friend.

Ken had my total respect. He was a kind genial gentle giant with a calm but firm voice. I never heard a derogatory word said about Ken. He had a way with people; even suspects had the utmost respect for him. He treated everyone fairly with decency And respect. Ken set a good example for the younger officers and Detectives. He was a good example for me to follow. I strived to follow his advice and his example when I worked the 4:00 pm to 12:00 am Robbery detail. May God bless my friend, and give him everlasting peace. My condolences to Kens Family.

Ken was a good man and a great " mentor " to me. I worked in the robbery Unit from 76 to 78, along with Detective Gaston. He, and Charlie, took us under their wings and showed us how it was done. R.I.P. " Twolane "...
