Kevin LaShawn Cotton, affectionately known as “Porkchop/Chop’’ and “Cott” was born on February 19th, 1998, to parents Katrina and Calvin Cotton, in Suffolk, Virginia.
Kevin attended Oakland Elementary School and Kings Fork Middle School. Kevin was a lifelong football player and played Cornerback during his time at Kings Fork High School. He graduated high school in 2016 and went on to attend Virginia State University in the fall. After completing his freshman year, Kevin returned home and began working and creating a life for himself. Kevin’s most recent job was an E-Commerce Clerk at Cost Plus World Market, where he was loved dearly and made lifelong friendships.
If you knew Kevin, you knew he had a passion for football and was often found cheering on the Dallas Cowboys every Sunday, a team he’s loved since childhood. Kevin’s longest friendships all started with football, and he was even coached by his father as a child. Kevin was raised in church and was a member of Metropolitan Baptist Church. Kevin was the youngest member of the Youth Choir, at just 3 years old. He was also in the church band, a counselor for the Summer Enrichment Program, and served as President of the Youth Council his senior year, where he delivered the Youth Sunday message in 2016.
Kevin was preceded in death by Maternal grandparents, James and Ruth White, and Paternal grandparents, Paul and Gracie Cotton. Kevin was a proud father, and leaves to cherish his beautiful son, Kaiir LaShawn Cotton. Kevin also leaves behind his mother, Katrina and father, Calvin, brother, Kristopher, sisters, Kayla and Kelsey (Izel Jr.), one niece, Kennedi, and nephews, Khai, Kamden, and Izel III. Kevin also leaves to cherish his girlfriend of 4 years and mother of his son, Aveion Edwards, and a host of aunts, uncles, relatives, and loving friends.
