WATERTOWN - Lance Edward Percy, 81, of Sanford, Florida passed away on August 4, 2025 after a long illness. Born October 13, 1943 in Watertown, NY to Lyle and Genevieve Percy, Lance graduated from Watertown High School in 1961 and went on to receive his bachelors degree from SUNY Oswego in 1966. He later received a Master's Degree and Certificate of Advanced Studies in School Counseling as part of the class of 1975 from SUNY Oswego. Lance taught for four years in the public schools in upstate New York before taking a position as a middle school counselor in the Syracuse area. He returned to graduate school at The University of Virginia for further graduate work in the area of Counselor Education. He received his Doctor of Education degree from UVa in 1978. He accepted a faculty position in the Counselor Education program at The University of Central Florida in 1978 which he held for five years. He was an adjunct faculty member at Stetson University and Jacksonville University. He also held full time faculty positions at Valencia College and Full Sail University. He spent the latter part of his professional career as a consultant to various organization, including as a certified Teacher Effectiveness Trainer before retiring 2015 due to declining health. Lance served six years in the US Army Reserves and received an honorable discharge in 1973.

Lance is survived by two sons, Marc and Todd as well as four granddaughters, Lily, Joy, Chandler and Addison, all of whom reside in central Florida. He also is survived by his two brothers, Richard (Nashville, TN) and David (Lancaster, SC) sister, Donna Cronk (Watertown, NY) as well as many nieces and nephews.

Lance used his counselor training to practice what he preached. He was a kind, caring person who believed in the goodness of all human beings.and he improved the lives of so many. A celebration of Lance's life will be held in Sanford, FL (date to be determined) and a spreading of his ashes in his favorite locations in Watertown, NY at a later date.
