Lawrence Smith Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 19, 2025.
Lawrence "Larry" Todd Smith passed away peacefully at his home in Lexington, Kentucky, on Monday, March 17, 2025, at the age of 79. He was born on July 15, 1945, in Los Angeles, California, to Lewis and Lillian Smith.

Larry proudly served for nine years in the United States Army, including time with the 25th Infantry Division, known as "Tropic Thunder," during the Vietnam War. His dedication to service extended beyond the military as he pursued his faith, graduating from Clear Creek Baptist Bible College and becoming an ordained minister. He found great joy in studying the Bible and serving the Lord.

Larry was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and uncle. He shared 51 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Barbara Ann Smith. He is also survived by his son Doug (Shannon) O'Mara; daughter-in-law Rebecca Smith; grandchildren Ciara and Isaac Smith and Amina Abdelsalam; sister Marilyn Brown; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son Jason Smith and sisters Carol Morris and Sally Banks.

Beyond his faith and family, Larry enjoyed hunting, working on cars, repairing computers, watching movies and Vietnam documentaries, and making silly jokes that brought laughter to those around him.

Services will be held on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Southern Heights Baptist Church, 3408 Clays Mill Rd, Lexington, Kentucky 40503. Visitation will take place from 2:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m., followed by a celebration of life. He will be laid to rest at Camp Nelson National Cemetery, 6980 Danville Rd, Nicholasville, Kentucky 40356.

Larry's memory will live on in the hearts of those who knew him.
