He attended elementary school at St. Johns Parochial in Columbia, S.D., and in 1970 graduated from Frederick High School, Frederick, S.D. He attended college at the University of North Dakota-Ellendale Branch. In August 1972, Lee enlisted in the U.S. Marines and was honorably discharged in September 1974.
On July 6, 1973, Lee married Kathleen Wallace at St. Helena's Catholic Church in Ellendale, N.D. Lee worked in the magazine and paperback book distribution business. He began with the company when it was known as ARA Services. The business was then sold to Anderson News Company and later became ProLogix, Lee's employer for the last 32 years. Lee resided at his home in Edmond until his death on Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, in Seminole County, Okla.
Lee was a member of the American Legion in Ellendale and was active in the United Way. He enjoyed woodworking, hunting, the Oklahoma Sooners and Oklahoma State Cowboys sports.
Lee is survived by his wife, Kathleen, of Edmond, Okla.; three sons: Joseph (Stephanie) Podoll of Yukon, Okla., David (Melissa) Podoll of San Antonio, Texas, and Michael Podoll of Oklahoma City, Okla.; mother, Eleanor (Bohling) Podoll of Aberdeen, S.D.; four brothers: Keith (Elaine) Podoll of Arlington, Wis., Dean (Kathy) Podoll of Littleton, Colo., Russ (Monica) Podoll of Fargo, N.D., and Glenn (Kathy) Podoll of Hazen, N.D.; one sister, Yvonne (Roger) Zillmer of Jamestown, N.D.; and many nephews, nieces and hunting buddies.
Lee was preceded in death by his father.
Casketbearers will be Bill DeMarce, Chris DeMarce, Paul Bohling, Terry Dennert, Loren Witte and Tim Wilson; organist will be Phyllis Yeske; duet by Pastor Jais and Lillian Tinglund.
The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Columbia, S.D., with pastors Jais Tinglund and John Farden officiating.
Burial will be at St. Helena's Catholic Cemetery in Ellendale, N.D.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
