NEW BEDFORD - Leo A. Laquerre, 88, of New Bedford, passed away on Sunday, December 12, 2010, at St. Luke's Hospital. He was the husband of the late Evelyn (Turgeon); and son of the late Joseph and Marie (LeBlanc) Laquerre.

He was a lifelong resident of New Bedford. He was a WW II Army veteran having served in the battle of Luzon and he was the recipient of many medals and citations.

For the past 25 years up to the days before his passing, he was the sewing machine mechanic at Greater New Bedford Voc-Tech for the Fashion Design Department. He loved flying and could often be found at the New Bedford Airport. His greatest passion was spending time with his family, grandchildren and his extended family at Voc-Tech. He will be remembered by all for his kindness, generousness, sense of humor and zest for life.

Survivors include his two daughters, Rachel Archer and Pauline St. Don and her husband, Michael, all of New Bedford; and seven grandchildren. He was the father of the late 1st Lt. Richard Laquerre USAF; and brother of the late George and Eugene Laquerre and Theresa Licata.

In accordance with his wishes, he was cremated. His Funeral Mass with cremains present will be at St. Anthony Church on Saturday at 9 AM followed by burial at Pine Grove Cemetery.

Arrangements by Rock Funeral Home.

Rachel and Pauline
What a guy.In all the years Iv'e known him it seems he was always the same.He didn't spend a lot of time thinking what he was going to say or do next. If you weren't quick to follow he was out the door..in the Buick and down the road..gone. If you were lucky he'd circle the block and pick you up.I can't remember him really upset ..even when he found out about some of the escapades Dick and I got into. How many times did he help us so your mother wouldn't find out. If you did well he told everyone if you made a mistake he told you. We talked often. Thanks for sharing him with us.

Pauline, Mike and Family, I was so sorry to hear your news. I could always look forward to you dad coming out of his room to say hello and make me laugh, but don't take him away from his "big tv." He loved your family so much... He will be missed Love , Susan

Leo was an amazing man. He could warm anyones heart and put a smile on your face, even if you were having a bad day.It was a privilige to have met him during my time in Fashion Design at GNBVT. He was a diamond in the rough and will NEVER be forgotten. My sympathy goes out to his dear family.
