Remembering a respected gentleman. Condolences to his family.

Fond memories of Mr Gillies as I called him most of my working life. Mr Les Gillies gave me my first job at the age of 16 and a half. I subsequently did an apprenticeship in Pastry-cooking and went on to work for him both at the Garsed street factory and Hargreaves street shop for a total of over 28 years. He was a fair and generous man who gave many hundreds of local people meaningful employment and and for that we can all be grateful for. May the Lord Jesus whom I know you trusted as I do as your savior give as he promises you reward and rest for eternity Mark Foggitt

Fond memories of working with a great man, whose ideas were well ahead of his time. He took the Gillies brand to great heights and I will always remember his inspirational ways. Will be sadly missed. Loretta Gibson
