Leslie Joe Hale, 75, of Crab Orchard, passed away on June 5th, 2016 after a brief illness. He was an honors graduate of Stoco High School, class of 1958. He attended the West Virginia Institute of Technology and studied engineering. He held several jobs in the Chicago area before marrying Brenda Joan Sexton. After completing his training in auto and transmission repair, he returned to the Beckley area and opened Joe's Garage, a local institution for nearly fifty years. In 1983 he married the love of his life, Robin Rowe. His greatest joys were spending time with Robin at their beautiful farm in Lewis County, hunting and fishing with his children and grandchildren, working the land, woodworking, collecting Native American artifacts, passing on his knowledge of history to his family, and spending time in nature. He was a master of all trades, could diagnose many car problems without driving, and built a house and a cabin from the ground up. He was well known in Southern West Virginia and throughout
the State, and was indeed a stranger to none. He was preceded in death by his father Henry, his mother Marine, his brother Gib, his sister Shannon, and his daughter Robin. He is survived by his beloved wife of 33 years, Robin Adele, his son Shaun (Ellen), son Jim (Julie), daughter Barbara, and daughter Rebecca (Donnie). He is also survived by numerous grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully asks that donations be made to your local Salvation Army Office. We all love and miss him dearly. Visitation will be held on Friday, June 10th from 12 to 1pm, followed by a celebration of life service at 1pm at Blue Ridge Funeral Home in Beckley, West Virginia. Online condolences may be sent to the family at www.blueridgefuneralhome.com.

It saddens me to hear about the death of Joe. I graduated from Stoco High School with him in 1958. I remember him as a very intelligent and happy young man. My husband and I had car problems on a trip to WV a few years ago and took the car to Joe's garage. He repaired the car in no time and we were able to enjoy the rest of our visit. We were very grateful. Rest in peace Joe.

To Robin and the entire Hale family... Words can never express how sad I feel for the loss of such a wonderful man. I will never forget the kindness and generosity that was shown to me when I lived in your house. I came to spend the night and ended up staying a year and a half. Robin always know I am here for you and you will always be my best FRIEND.

I remember Joe from Stoco High School and when we lived in Chicago. We visited him at his home there when Shaun was born. He was always so nice to Charles and me and what I remember the most was what a sweet soft speaking man he was and how he always treat us with respect and made us feel welcome. Find comfort in the Lord and cherish every memory because it will help you through this loss.

There are few men who stand out as truly memorable in my life. Joe is one of them. We shared many wonderful memories and talked of many things. Darlene and I were blessed to share wonderful times with him and Robin. Sadly I wish there could have been more. I will smile when I think of him. He touched our lives in profound ways. Thank you Joe. Robin you and the family have our deepest prayers and condolences. If there is anything we can do please just let us know. God bless and comfort you all.

Sorrow does not start to convey the feelings that I have for my family. We have lost one of the most loyal and affectionate people that we will ever be blessed to know. I pray that someday I will live up to the legacy of the person that he was and the person that I most want to be like.
