Lester Kennedy

SP4 Lester Kennedy, a proud veteran of the Vietnam War, passed away on June 12, 2025, in Pomona, California. He was born on June 22, 1944, in Hinds County, Mississippi.

Lester served his country with honor and dedication during the Vietnam War and was honorably discharged on July 1, 1973. His service remains a lasting testament to his strength and commitment.

In his earlier years, Lester was raised in the Baptist faith. Throughout his life, he found joy in simple pleasures-he especially enjoyed early morning long walks to start his day. Upon returning home, he would relax by listening to rhythm and blues music while watching people pass by on the sidewalks outside. These quiet moments reflected his appreciation for life's everyday rhythms.

Lester is lovingly remembered by his son Ronald Kennedy Sr., daughter Marie Lanehart, and nephew Kim Roberts. His legacy continues through his grandchildren Martel Kennedy, Ronald Kennedy Jr., Elijah Duckworth Jr., Da'Shante Kennedy, Zemirah Duckworth, Zakiyah Duckworth, and Zacaria Duckworth. He also leaves behind great-granddaughters Anastasia Kennedy, Alani Kennedy, and Lilah Kennedy; and great-grandsons Marz Kennedy and Malakai Kennedy. Elijah Duckworth Sr son-in-law and Delilah Kennedy daughter-in-law.

He now joins in rest his mother Marie Roberts, sister Roberta Roberts, and brother George Kennedy.

Though Lester sometimes felt he couldn't do enough for those around him, his presence and care meant everything. As shared by those who loved him: "Even though at times you felt that you weren't able to do a lot for us you just being there and showing that you cared was enough! You will forever be in our hearts! Until we meet again Mmm Hmmm!!!"

May his memory bring comfort to all who knew him. A Graveside Service will be held on July 3, 2025, from 11:15 AM to 12:30 PM at Riverside National Cemetery 22495 Van Buren Blvd . There will be an information booth that can direct you to the service location.
