Liam Balton Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 23 to Aug. 24, 2011.
Liam Christopher Balton of Bellingham, WA, passed away on Friday, August 19, 2011 in Seattle. He was 12. Liam was fascinated with numbers and excelled in mathematics throughout his schooling. He was looking forward to entering an accelerated math program at Fairhaven Middle School this fall. Liam showed an interest and aptitude in language. Liam often exercised his fantastic imagination by inventing languages, creating alphabets, map-making, cartooning, writing stories and poetry, and composing music. He enjoyed biking, reading, running, track and field, and hiking. He loved geography, baking cakes and enjoyed tasting different cheeses. He was an active member of Boy Scout Troop 4020, Ninja Patrol. Liam played violin since age six and was learning to play electric guitar. He enjoyed reading fiction and non-fiction. He loved listening mostly to classic rock, and recording his own compositions. He appreciated the challenges and benefits of the programs within which he was involved. Liam was a thoughtful friend with a great sense of humor. Liam took to heart his father's lesson of rising to challenges. He was a kind person, both as a caring individual and a person who thought through issues carefully. He is survived by his parents, Christopher Stevens Balton and Lisa Eva Balton; sister Elsa Balton; grandmothers Sally Balton from Daly City, CA; Nina Zentner of San Francisco, CA; great grandmother Betty Simons of San Francisco, CA; and many other family members throughout the world. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 24, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Moles Bayview Chapel, 2465 Lakeway Dr. in Bellingham followed by burial at Beth Israel Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Cure Search at www.curesearch.org. Moles Family Funeral Home & Crematory, Bayview Chapel

I learned last night of Liam's passing from Mason. The shock of this saddest of news… and then the tears and the shock and the tears have been with me all night and morning; I wept for you and my heart grieves his loss and his absence. Lisa, you and your family are in my thoughts and as the pain of this is too much for just your family to hold, please know that your loss is carried throughout this town, through us and through all the people whose lives have crossed his path. We send you our most loving thoughts, our deepest empathy.

Liam was a soul-mate to our grandson Max. We have seen them together numerous times, especially at birthday parties where Liam and Max shared their amazing creativity. All of us are stunned and heartbroken. May Liam's brilliance and promise live on in Max and all who knew him. What a wonderful child you raised. We wish your family peace and the healing power of time and friendship.

Many tears have been shed by this mother, for Liam and for your family and community that love and miss him. Liam's kind eyes always warmed me as our paths crossed in the violin studio over these years. What a gentle soul. Our family sends prayers for your healing, now and always.

Our hearts are heavy at the news of Liam's passing. He was such a beautiful, loving, bright, thoughtful child. We will never forget him and cherish all the fond memories we/the boys had with Liam in the neighborhood -- swimming in your backyard pool, playing legos on the driveway, hosting successful lemonade stands and just popping back and forth to share fun conversations, a great meal, or birthday celebrations. We will never forget Liam -- and hope you too will find comfort in the many wonderful memories you shared with him. Sending you all our love and wishing you comfort and peace during this painful time. Love, Mike, Mo, Mark & John Gannon

But what I will cherish most was his delightful smile and joy while interacting with his friends. May God's grace and blessings be with you as you confront this tragic loss. I do not know your family, but I am friends with your friends, the Muellers and the Fackler-Adams. I am a teacher, as well, so, from the remarks about Liam I can just guess what a joy he was to have in class. I am writing because I want you to know that even a stranger that you do not know has been touched by your son's life and passing and that when a stone is cast into the water, the ripples reach where you can't imagine. Prayers and good wishes always.
