Linda Jalbert Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Aug. 11 to Aug. 14, 2010.
OBITUARY LINDA ANNE JALBERT April 5, 1955 - August 6, 2010 Linda passed away Friday, August 6, 2010 in Toronto. Beloved wife of Renaud Payette, dearest daughter of Nanette Jalbert and the late Rene Jalbert, sister of Marc (Elize). Linda was born and raised in Quebec City, moved to Montreal and embarked on a very successful career in the hotel industry. Her accomplishments were well deserved. Linda became the Director of Sales for the Ritz Carlton, Director of Sales and Marketing of the Four Seasons Hotel and the Loews Hotel Vogue. Linda was also General Manager of the Hotel Pennsylvania in Manhattan. Somehow, Linda found the time to mentor many young people along the way. She was admired and respected by all. Linda's 'joie to vivre' kept her many friends together. Friendship was very important to her as she was so very important to her friends. Her engaging personality, her fabulous sense of humour, and her laugh, which was the most wonderful laugh in the world, will be missed terribly by all who had the good fortune to know our loyal friend Linda. Linda lived her life to the fullest, with dignity and grace. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks for the exceptional care Linda received at the Odette Cancer Centre and the Sunnybrook Hospital by Drs. Sunil Verma, Debbie Selby, Arjun Saghal, their teams and the many others who allowed Linda the extra time she so desired and fought for so bravely and optimistically. A memorial service will be held in Montreal at the St. James United Church, 463 Ste-Catherine Street West at 2:00 pm August 18, 2010. The service will be followed by a reception in honour of Linda's life at the Mount Stephen Club, 1440 Drummond Street. In loving memory of Linda, in lieu of flowers, a donation to the Sunnybrook Foundation, sunnybrook.ca, would be greatly appreciated. Fly me to the moon, Baby Luv. Met Linda at Quebec City High, shared many coffees and stories with her and her brother at the cafe across the street. They taught me how to swear in French!

Linda was known to the cancer community as the Montreal patient whose advocacy caused Quebec, and then all provinces in quick succession, to cover the cost of Herceptin. She volunteered for breast cancer groups in Montreal and became a Director of CACC, sharing her own experience so that we would learn how to make a difference. In her work as a hotel manager and consultant, she was successful and highly regarded; the kind of manager everybody wants to work for. The remarkble gift of Linda was the grace and humour she brought to her ordeal with cancer. She never wanted her friends to suffer with her, she wanted to enjoy her friends and for them to enjoy her company. Linda need never have worried about it; for lively fun and laughs there was nobody more delightful than our dear Linda. Our deepest sympathies go to her beloved husband, Renaud, as her many friends feel this terrible loss. Now she makes the angels giggle.
