Lloyd George Cassler

Lloyd G. Cassler, 93 Lake Mary, Florida, formerly of Michigan City, Indiana, joined his heavenly Father on Thursday, February 21, 2013. Services will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Oviedo, Florida on Monday, February 25, 2013. Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at the church. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., with the Rev. Gary Schuschke officiating. Interment will be at St. Luke's Lutheran Church's Cemetery following the service. Lloyd was born in Michigan City to Shirley and Amelia Cassler on September 7, 1919. He married Joyce J. Cassler on November 7, 1942; she survives him. They were married for 70 years. Lloyd is also survived by two sons, Daniel M. (Anne) Cassler of Humble, Texas, and Thomas L. (Susan) Cassler of LaPorte, Indiana, and by a daughter, Susan J. (the late Dr. Anthony) Weber of Lake Mary, Florida. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Suzanne Weber of Lake Mary, Florida; Sarah Weber of Lake Mary, Florida; Anne Cassler of Humble, Texas; Courtney (A.J.) Udvare of Chesterton, Indiana; Matthew Cassler of Chesterton, Indiana. He is also survived by three great-grandchildren . His parents, three sisters and two brothers preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his beloved son-in-law, Dr. Anthony K. Weber. Lloyd resided in Michigan City until 2010, when he relocated to Lake Mary, Florida. In 1939, Lloyd graduated from Isaac C. Elston Sr. High School, Michigan City, where he was a member of the track team, finishing second in the state of the mile relay team. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the U.S. Navy and the Naval Reserve for six years. Lloyd retired from Northern Indiana Public Service Company as an emergency dispatcher in 1982, after 29 years of service. He was a faithful member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of Michigan City, where he served as a trustee, finance committee member, and boys' softball and basketball coach. He was also a member of the building committee, where he helped to plan construction of Immanuel's present site. Lloyd enjoyed woodworking and carpentry. Since 2012, Lloyd was a member of St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Oviedo, Florida. He was devoterd to His Lord. He loved his family and he will be greatly missed.
