Lloyd Stone

STONE Lloyd John. Lloyd passed away peacefully at Peace Arch Hospital in White Rock, B.C. on January 20, 2008 after a long, full life dedicated to his loving family and friends, his communities and his newspaper career. He was predeceased by his first son, Donald Lloyd Stone in 1948, by his sister Leitha Partaker in 1992 and by his parents, John and Rebecca (Rae) Stone of Neepawa, Manitoba in 1966 and 1980 respectively. His wife of 61 years, Edith, his sons, Raymond, Stewart, and Kenneth, together with their spouses, and Lloyd's 10 grandchildren, his niece, Donna and nephew, Dale are left to celebrate his life. Born March 2, 1920 in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Lloyd spent his formative years in the small farming community of Birnie, Manitoba. He proudly served his country from 1941 to 1945, joining the RCAF in Brandon, and was stationed in airbases in Great Britain from 1942 to 1945. When the war ended, Lloyd returned to Canada to marry Edith and to start his life-long career in the newspaper industry. He worked for papers in Flin Flon, Man. and in Sudbury and North Bay, Ont. before joining the classified advertising department of the Vancouver Sun in 1965 where he stayed until his retirement in 1985. He and Edith made their Vancouver home near Edgemont Village in North Vancouver until 1989 when they moved to the White Rock area to enjoy their retirement years. Lloyd's family wishes to thank Dr. Brian Prentice and the 4th floor staff of Peace Arch Hospital for their excellent care during his final weeks. A Memorial Service will be held for Lloyd at First United Church, 15385 Semiahmoo Avenue in White Rock, B.C. at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 26, 2008. In lieu of flower, a donation in Lloyd's memory to Peace Arch Hospital and Community Health Foundation or to a charity of your choice would be greatly appreciated.
