Lorraine Scherba Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Aug. 25, 2025.
Lorraine (Stevens) Scherba was born August 19, 1928 in San Mateo, Ca and passed away August 6, 2025 in Chico, Ca.

She was raised by her loving parents Mary and Lyme Stevens. Lorraine spent a great deal of time with her Armenian grandparents in her growing up years. She had a deep love for her Armenian heritage which she cherished all her life.

In 1949 she married Theodore Scherba. Together they raised four children: Kathleen, Donald, Gregory and Kimberly.

Ted and his brothers and Lorraine founded Scherba's Auto Stores, a business that operated in San Francisco and on the peninsula for many decades. Lorraine was instrumental in the success of the business.

In her later years Lorraine renewed her interest in painting including watercolors, oils, and pastels. She eventually opened her own art studio at the Redwood City Art Center. She flourished there, teaching students for sixteen years. She loved her students, and they loved her. She traveled extensively, including many trips to Europe with artist friends.

After living her whole life in the San Francisco Bay Area, ten years ago Lorraine moved to Chico to be closer to family. She spent a great deal of time with her children and enriched their lives. She became involved with the Piano Performance group and played for the group a month before she passed away.

Lorraine is predeceased by her parents Mary and Lyme Stevens and her brother Charles.

Lorraine leaves behind her children and their spouses: Kathleen (Rick), Donald (Linda), Gregory (Keiko), and Kimberly (James). She leaves six grandchildren: Jesse and Luke Scherba, Sara and Michael Nielsen, and Yukichi and Alicia Scherba. She also leaves six great-grandchildren: Cora, Lacey, Tatum, Oliver, Olivia and Logan Scherba

The whole family will miss her dearly.
