Louami Carr Obituary
Published by Legacy Remembers on Feb. 4, 2019.
Louami was the first child born to Elbert and Lutie Clemons on July 26, 1935 in West Virginia. Brother Arnie and sisters Madge and Nadine would complete the Clemons family.
Louami met Bill Carr in 1949. She was going to school with Bill's younger brother John. Bill had noticed Louami walking by his house on her way to the post office and he asked John to say good things about him because he was interested in courting her. John started telling Louami about his nice, older, brother Bill, resulting in their first date, which was going to church.
Bill and Louami married on April 10, 1952. Bill was a superintendent in the coal mines and Louami took care of the children: Sarah born in 1954, Rose born in 1956 and Richard born in 1959.
Bill escaped the coal mines of West Virginia in 1962 moving the family to Bellflower, CA. They cried all the way along Route 66 already missing their families.
Louami's sister, Madge and husband Bruce, would move from West Virginia to Bellflower two years later. Many years of special and everyday occasions would be celebrated with Madge and Bruce and their children Bruce and Holly.
Bill became the owner of Carr's Arco, Bellflower. Daughter, Rachel, was born in 1968. Louami was a very creative and gifted person. She was an excellent seamstress and could sew everything from the girl's clothes to draperies for the home. She even reupholstered her own furniture. Louami enjoyed oil painting, quilting, baking, cake decorating and gardening. She and sister, Madge, were always taking on new projects. They took many classes together such as flower arranging and microwave cooking and off they would go.
Bill and Louami saw all of their children come to know the Lord at Calvary Baptist Church. When the invitation to receive Christ was given on Easter Sunday, 1970, they both went forward. Bill, Louami and Richard were baptized into the membership of Calvary Baptist Church, April 12, 1970. They enjoyed the fellowship and friendships of many at Calvary Baptist. Richard's friends Ken Harris and John Moore became part of the Carr family.
Louami was faithful in singing with the church choir for many years. She enjoyed working with dear friends in the children's Sunday School Department and enjoyed the Women's Ministry festivities.
Louami was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease 8 years ago. Her daughter, Rose, who lived with and
assisted her, passed away in 2015. Louami moved to Bakersfield and Sarah, Rachel, Samantha, Sabrina and family were blessed to have her live close by.
Louami passed away, Monday morning, February 4, 2019, due to complications from Parkinson's disease.
Louami was preceded in death by her husband Bill, parents Elbert and Lutie, Brother Arnie, Son Richard and Daughter Rose. After 19 years apart, Bill and Louami have been reunited in heaven.
Louami is survived by her sister Madge Cantley and husband Bruce, sister Nadine White and husband George, daughter Sarah Brewton and husband Glen, and daughter Rachel Carr; granddaughters Christine, Samantha, Krista, Sabrina and Klarissa; great grandchildren Ethan, Emily, Robert, Lily and Joey.
