Louise Volk

Louise A. Volk died suddenly but peacefully with her family surrounding her on May 29, 2009. She was born in Loose Creek, Mo., on Oct. 17, 1920, to Anton and Agnes Backes; she was one of 10; seven brothers and two sisters. She married Howard Volk on Oct. 17, 1941. They were married for 66 years until Howard's death in 2008. Together they had two children they adored, Richard and Carol. Her family was her pride and joy. She looked forward to her daily phone calls from her best friend and granddaughter, Courtney. At family functions she delighted in all of her great-grandchildren's presence, and would always bring a "secret" salad that was the first to be eaten. Louise always had a kind word and a smile for everyone. Louise is survived by her son, Richard and his wife, Diane, of Joplin; daughter, Carol Volk-Korb and her husband, Gary, of Washington State; grandchildren, Courtney Leslie and husband, Peter, Eric Keller and wife, Kasey, Travis Keller and wife, Kendra, Trevor Keller and his soon to be wife, Amanda; great-grandchildren, Spencer, Luke and Izek Leslie, Kaden Keller, Logan, Morgan and Griffan Keller and Chloe Keller; brother, Ray Backes; sisters, Annie Williams and Sister Antonice Backes. Funeral services will be Monday, June 1, at 3 p.m. in Parker Mortuary Chapel with Father Justin Monaghan officiating. Cremation will follow services.
