Luis Salcedo Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 14 to Jul. 19, 2020.
God called his faithful servant, Father Luis Salcedo safely home on Sunday July 12, 2020. Father Salcedo peacefully passed in the loving comfort of his family at home. He was born in Versalles Colombia on May 24,1921 to the late Luis and Hermelinda Salcedo. Father was lovingly raised in a large family numbering 18 and completed his schooling in Colombia accomplishing a master’s degree in accounting. He wed Inez Lemos and they had three children together. Inez passed unexpectedly at a young age and Father decided to come to the United States in 1965 where he would raise his children. He worked various jobs until he and his family could become U.S. citizens in 1970. At this time, he accepted a position with the Internal Revenue Service in Hartford CT and was later promoted which required him to move to Washington D.C. It was here that Father became a deacon at St. James Church in Hysville MD and later ordained in 1990 fulfilling his dream to become a priest. His first assignment was at St. Matthew Cathedral in Washington D.C., he later returned to St. James church as a priest and he also served at St. Bartholomew in Bethesda MD. Father was a humble man with an inquisitive mind and a thirst for knowledge. His quest for each day that God granted him was to learn something new. It was rare to see him without a book or attending a class. He was a very learned man holding a master’s degree in languages as well as accounting. His love for his family knew no bounds and he had close relationships with every member. He was an incredibly special man who was passionate in every aspect of his life.
Father is survived by his loving children; son Hernando and his wife Margoth of Wilbraham and daughter Amparo and her husband, Thomas Marco of Agawam with whom he made his home. To cherish his memory, he leaves his grandchildren; Luis H Salcedo, Alex Salcedo and his wife Jeannine, Claudia Criscitalli and her husband Mark and great grandchildren; Joseph and Michael Salcedo and Ryan Criscitalli. He will be greatly missed by the surviving members of his immediate family of 18 brothers and sisters as well as the numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins as well as extended family and friends. Father was predeceased by his wife, Inez, and his son, Roney. The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to Father’s caregivers especially James Hicks along with Michel Brown, Samantha Wong, and Cheryl O’Sullivan for their kind and compassionate care.

Due to the current restrictions due to COVID 19 a liturgy of Christian burial will be held privately for the family at a later date to be determined by the family. Fathers final interment will take place at the Basilica of El Senor delos Milagros in Buga Colombia.

I remember Father used to come to Mass at St. Johns in Agawam. Hd would sit up near the Altar in his robes. I taught CCD at the time, and I would always go say hello and ask him for a blessing.

He was such a sweet man, and you knew he was a true man of God. I am honored to have known him in this way.
