Lynda Carolyn (Maberry) Cheavens

Lynda Carolyn Maberry Cheavens, 84, of Lufkin, Texas was born September 7, 1940, to Reginald Ted Maberry and Rosa Bernice Maberry. She went to be with our Lord and Savior peacefully in a hospital in Longview, Texas on August 7, 2025.

She is preceded in death by her father and mother, Ted and Bernice Maberry, and brother Ronald Stephen Maberry.

Lynda is survived by her brother Mike Maberry & sister-in-law Terri Maberry of Huntington, Texas, and sister Emily Nichols and brother-in-law, the late Fred Nichols of Tyler, Texas. Lynda's four children, Carolyn Cheavens Capps and son-in-law Kay Capps, Bryan, Texas; John Cheavens and daughter-in-law Anita Cheavens of Lufkin, Texas; Ted Cheavens and daughter-in-law Caren Cheavens of Round Rock, Texas; Emily DuBose and son-in-law Clay DuBose of Lufkin, Texas.

Lynda had 11 grandchildren: Justin Chance, Brittney Smith, Cody Cheavens, Amanda Cheavens, T.J. Cheavens, David Cheavens, Taylor Salas Cheavens, Chloe Cheavens, Samantha Cheavens, Anna Bostock, and Rachel Bentley. She also had 11 great-grandkids: Max Smith, Caroline Smith, Cooper Chance, Aubree Chance, Rebecca Cheavens, Evelyn Cheavens, Eli Bostock, Leah Mae Bostock, Mary Bell Bostock, Clay Baker Bentley, Ruth Alice Bentley, and numerous loved nieces and nephews.

Lynda graduated from Lufkin High School in 1958 and attended Texas Christian University, where she met Buck Cheavens and married having four children. She had numerous jobs in her lifetime, ranging from managing The Meadows Retirement Home, writing for the Lufkin Daily News, substitute teaching, director at Days Inn, and general manager of Crown Colony Country Club.

Always sharp and witty, Lynda took pride in her amazing sense of humor and sarcasm while constantly keeping everyone on their toes. A perfect example of one of her famous, memorable lines after being on the phone too long was, "Okay, I'm tired of talking to you now." She also loved old movies and would regularly quote them with the intent to make you laugh.

Lynda loved hunting, collecting arrowheads, looking for sharks' teeth, playing trivia, dancing, and watching sunsets every evening as the deer fed near her cabin in Beulah, Texas.

Lynda was a member of Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Diboll, Texas. She always had a very strong belief in Jesus Christ. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that all memorial contributions be made to Pine Grove Missionary Baptist Church, P.O. Box 608, Diboll, Texas 75941.

A private memorial service for Lynda's family will be held at a later date to celebrate her life in accordance with the family's wishes.

She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her. She will live forever in our hearts, but we rejoice that she is in Heaven with her Lord, Jesus.
