Funeral service for Mackey Nelson, Sr., 78, of Lamesa will be held Friday, March 26, 2021 at 10:00 a.m. at Church of the Nazarene with Lee Lennon officiating. Burial will follow to Dawson County Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Branon Funeral Home. Visitation will be held Thursday, March 25, 2021 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Branon Funeral Home. Masks and social distancing are required at funeral home and cemetery.
Mackey passed away Saturday, March 20, 2021 in Lamesa. He was born December 18, 1942 to Mack and Vena (Wilson) Nelson in Lamesa, Texas. He married Linda Johnson Nelson September 3.1963 in Mexico. He was a truck driver and farmer. He enjoyed fishing and working in his yard. He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene.
Mackey is survived by his children, Mackie Nelson of Lamesa, Dusty Nelson and Valerie Hilburn of Lamesa, Shannon Watkins of Quanah, and Robin Nelson and wife, Estella of Lamesa; sister, Linda McClung of Arizona; grandchildren, Skylr Chastain, Taylor Nelson, Lance Nelson, Michael Watkins , Tiffani Nelson, Randy Watkins, Nicholas Watkins, Alex Fore, Vanessa Sanchez, Kimberly Cortez and Nick Robles; and six great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; and grandson, Jade Jarrett.
