Marcella Trandem Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Jan. 18, 2018.
Marcella Trandem, age 92, a lifelong resident of Steele County, died Monday, Jan. 15, 2018, at Prairie Manor Care Center in Blooming Prairie.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Owatonna. Friends may greet the family from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 19, at the Brick-Meger Funeral Home and one hour before the Mass on Saturday. Burial will take place at Sacred Heart Cemetery.

Marcella was born Jan. 10, 1926, in Owatonna at her grandparents' home. She was the daughter of Fred and Agnes (Wencl) Miller. She grew up on a dairy farm in Somerset Township, Steele County. In January 1941, she left school to care for her brother, upon the death of her mother. Marcella married John P. Trandem on April 24, 1946, in Owatonna. Together they raised seven children on a dairy farm in Deerfield Township. In 1979, they moved to Owatonna and remained there until 2016.

Marcella was a homemaker when the children were young. She later went on to work as a head cook before retiring in 1988. She enjoyed fishing trips Up North, traveling, playing pinochle, but most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Marcella was a woman of deep religious faith and had an enduring love for her family and friends. She was willing to help out whenever needed.

Marcella is survived by one son, Marvin (Sandi) Trandem, Faribault; five daughters, Judy (Dwayne) Hensrud of Medford, Jan (John) Kasper of Grand Forks, N.D., Mary (Pat) Chambers of Rochester, Margaret "Margie" (Bob) Hensrud of Kenyon, and Phyllis (Scott) Trcka of Rochester; 15 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 70 years, John; one son, John F.; granddaughter, Andrea Kasper; sister, Clara Butler; and brothers, Paul, Laurence and Bernard Miller. She was also preceded in death by eight brothers-in-law and eight sisters-in-law.

Although it has been many years since I saw Marcy I have thought of her often. She used to come to my beauty shop in Faribault. We had many interesting talks of her life and of course her family. John and John Jr. would come in to let her know her ride was ready. What a pleasure to meet them all. Thank you God for allowing me to meet these wonderful people and God bless their memory.
