Mark Kirkpatrick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 6, 2024.
Mark Ralph Kirkpatrick, of Amarillo, Texas, was born on December 26, 1957, in Lubbock, Texas, and passed away on August 16, 2024, at the age of 66 in Newport, Tennessee while on vacation. He leaves behind a legacy as a devoted family man and a respected businessman.

Mark graduated from high school in Perryton, Texas. He went on to attain a bachelor's degree in finance from Hardin Simmons University which laid the groundwork for his diverse and successful career. Mark started his professional journey as a realtor, later becoming a sales representative for Kinney Manufacturing. He was also the proud owner of Atlama Moving and Storage and an astute investor.

A committed Christian and member of First Baptist Church, Mark's faith played a significant and guiding role in his life. His personal interests were varied; he was an avid traveler, enjoyed exploring new restaurants, had a passion for collecting, and was a car enthusiast.

Mark was a loving husband to Alison Terry Kirkpatrick - his wife of 42 years - and he was a cherished father to John Kirkpatrick and his wife, Alison Elizabeth, as well as sons, Thomas Kirkpatrick, and Andy Kirkpatrick. He was also an adored Poppy to Cooper, Laney, and Mara Kirkpatrick, and Grandpa to Connor Howard. Mark was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Beth Johnson Kirkpatrick and Ralph Pierce Kirkpatrick.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 10 AM on September 14 at First Baptist Church, Amarillo -1208 Tyler. (The church suggests you arrive by 9:30 AM to avoid traffic from the Tri-State Fair Parade. Please park on the south lots and enter through the south church doors.)

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in his memory. Mark's dedication to his family and community will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

I just tried to call Mark (March 2025) and phone was disconnected. So sad to find his obituary. We were great friends at HSU in Abilene, and got to have dinner with him 2 or 3 years ago when he drove to Dallas.

I only met Alison one time, when I was leaving Santa Fe and heading back to Dallas via Oklahoma. Sorry for your loss. His memory will always be a blessing.

I just learned of Mark´s passing. I am in total shock. Mark was the only high school friend that I kept in touch with after graduating. I have so many great memories of our friendship. I will miss your calls to keep me updated about Perryton. My deepest condolences to Alison and family.

I was searching for Mark's info to call him when I found this. My heart is so broken and I'm so so sad! My high school, college and life long best friend since 1973. Allison, I am so so sorry! Mark was absolutely the most amazing person, man, family man and friend I've ever had in my life! Love you!

Deeply saddened to learn of Mark's passing, so pleased that I got to see you, Alison, and Mark last year during your trip to England. Mark was the first person to meet me and welcome me to Amarillo in 1981. My visit to Amarillo, which turned into a somewhat extended stay, was the result of an FBC High School choir trip to England and Europe that took place in 1976. A dear friend, who was on that trip, arranged accommodation for me with Mark and two other families. We have shared many good times together, enjoyed much conversation and find it hard to process his passing. My love and prayers go out to you Alison, the boys and their families at this very difficult time. Blessings. Nick

Shortly after Mark moved to Amarillo, he hosted a fellowship at his condo in Amarillo for either the young adults at First Baptist or maybe it was the Amarillo College Baptist Student Union. What I do remember was that is was decorated in "sophisticated bachelor" style. ;-)

Dear Allison and family,
I am so sorry to hear the news of Mark´s passing. He was a great friend to me. I read that he enjoyed searching out new restaurants which is also one of my great pleasures. When I think of Mark, I will always think of the times that he took me to the Char-Kel drive in in Amarillo. He introduced me to two of his favorite things there- a frankfurter burger with chili and a cheese fritter.
Mark always liked having fun and was up for new adventures. Those memories of my friend will last forever.

Mark moved our family from Houston to Abilene when I went to work for HSU. We quickly became friends after that. Good hearted man who will be missed.

I have known Mark since we were 7th and 8th graders in Perryton. I´ve farmed for him since our mutual friend Jeff Smith passed in 2017 and we became not only business partners but very good friends. Mark and I could always laugh together about many things and I have no words to describe how much he will be missed!

My first memory was meeting he and his future wife, Alison in my singles class. I enjoyed saying hi in the FBC hallways ever since. (Well over 40 plus years) I am praying for all the family.

Mark and I made a weekend trip to Santa Fe, New Mexico when he worked for Owen´s-Corning in Amarillo. I drove from Oklahoma and we left after work on Friday afternoon. We ate at a Mexican restaurant there where we laughed at each other as sweat poured from our foreheads from the peppers. Life well lived, my friend!
